when did malls basically fade off into obscurity?

Out here in my damn drawls
This is also why you don't see kids playing outside during the summer

I was near the town where I went to high school at and I wanted to play ball.

It's the middle of summer, 5 pm, nothing going on and we didn't even have enough people for a 3 on 3 :martin:

If I would've gone to the same park 6-7 years ago at 8-9 pm on a Wednesday night I would've had to wait to get a run in :skip:

Say whaa? Tell me more, I'm intrigued.

Tysons went under heavy expansion over the last 10 years, and they'll still look to remodel and expand as the Metro moves through there.

Springfield Mall was purchased for pennies on the dollar a number of years ago ($65M) and then went under a $250M rehab recently and reopened last year. It was then sold for $465M and there are plans to redevelop the surrounding areas w/ high rise condos and apartments. It's a great location by the Mixing Bowl and they'll looking to exploit the semi-close Metro as well.

Landmark Mall over Alexandria was just approved for an additional 54K square foot addition and rehabilitation to the surrounding areas. No clue what the cost will be.

After that, there is Fair Oaks, which I wouldn't be surprised will undergo some changes in the next decade, they're going to have to stay relevant.

My job keeps me close with commercial development in the area.

EDIT: Ironically enough, Dulles Town Center is still a piece of shyt, no matter what they do to it. I never figured out as to why they could never maintain a decent selection of stores being in the heart of Loudoun County.

Online shopping. There's more to choose from. It's been months since I've been in a mall and usually only go for a specific thing, not to actually shop. Nothing like buying something from the mall and showing up at an event and 3 other people wearing the same thing as you :scust:

Nice to see a NoVa resident on here.

Tysons is so nice. Haven't been there in almost a year, but I'd definitely go back. Pretty smart for these malls to intertwine with the metros, keeps them busy and brings more customers. I live near Manassas and can't believe how that mall is still up and running.....I guess having a Wal-Mart next to it helps out.

Online shopping is not the reason, wtf. Think about stores that are inside malls before you say online again...stores that people need/prefer to go in person like glasses, shoes, clothes, food, etc. Then stores like gamestop, hair salons, etc. Then you get the luxury of doing all that while at one place. So how is online shopping killing that and not individual retailers not part of malls?
