I've noticed in football, damn near every dude is dreaded. College & NFL. Nyggaz are startin to lock their harir up in high school so by the time they hit college, their dreds hang out their helmets. I don't know about other regions in the US, but out here in Cali. Especially in Oakland, ridin around with dreds puts a bullseye on u, from law enforcement and other nyggaz tryna see what your about. Popos will be quick to pull yo azz over and employers be lookin at nygaz like:scusthov:

I understood what he meant, and I still think that locks were popular before the early 2000's.

Not everyone is going to agree on this though.

I say the popularity if dreads in the hood directly corresponds to the rise in lil Wayne's popularity. Most nikkas in the hoods with dreads look straight bummy like chief keef. They don't even keep the look up like the Afrocentric earthy cats who rocked dreads since whenever.

It's a time period thing for young nikkas

Everyone was rocking braids when A.I was at his peak with all his designs and what not

Then nikkas start cutting they hair and getting waves it was all about the 360

Then strangely enough whe the Gucci mane era got going because all the Lil hood nikkas love Gucci and he put on waka who was making music people wanted to shake their dreads to like him

That's the way I see it in Chicago and its also a what the girls liking type thing a couple nikkas switch it up and the girls like it then its a crowd of people with it

Somewhere plottin
Locks been popping in chicago since the early 2000s but it was usually with the older guys like 25+. But around 07 was when I started seeing a lot of guys with the baby dreads in my school and hood and shyt. Now its hard to find a guy with OUT dreads in Chicago :snoop:

Lil Wayne and Waka Flocka had a huge influence in chicago, and once Chicity found out that weezy's hairstylist is from chicago, nikkas went ape shyt with the dreads.

Plus a lot of them don't even take care of them. I.E. getting them retwisted, washing and conditioning them, getting a lining etc.

But hey its their choice :yeshrug:

Like I said, not everyone is going to agree, depending on where you're from. I don't remember dreads not being popular growing up, and I'm 26. That just maybe a Florida thing...

where are you from cause as far as i know it's only popular down south, north east, and maybe oakland out west, and chicago. and except for the northeast caribbeans i've never seen it popular in the 90's or early 2000's in most of those places.
