If we are to believe what David Chase said years back about Tony's final scene is that he gets killed and/or serious indictments are coming because of Carlo flipping. The final straw that brought down the Sopranos crew was the whole Vito saga.

Phil wouldn't let it go, killed vito and stuck a pool cube up his ass, and eventually it kicked off the war where Sil got shot & probably died, bobby gets killed, Fat Dom, and possibly Tony.

To be honest, Tony didn't want to have Vito killed cuz he was the top earner in his crew. I mean it was really all about the money.

It was the final illustration of how the old 'mob rules' don't work. You got a top earner who happens to be gay doing his gay activities on the low and he still can't survive.

It was about the money but it was also the lack of respect is what ultimately got Vito killed along with Tony.

What I mean is, Yes on one end you’re correct. Vito was the top earner for tony. But go back to the conversation he & Sil had after cardo got promoted.

Tony was about to have a real mutiny on his hand because the guys no longer respected Vito and they were going to withhold money from tony which could could’ve lead to a war in his own crew.

Also the reason I keep saying Tony got killed as if there were in doubt. Jamie-Lynn Sigler the actress who played Meadow has said repeatedly that in that final scene, two different scenes were shot.

The one we saw where it fades to black and the other were she sees tony getting shot in the back of the head. Chase chose to go with the the former as opposed to the ladder. Again the whole Vito saga brought down the family.
