Because its closest associated with the Black Community. My question is why is it you want to describe everything wrong people bring up Hip Hop without addressing the fact that the Black Community doesn't even control the culture, we're merely consumers of it.

It seems like the whole USA (blacks included) cant differentiate ENTERTAINMENT from REAL LIFE.

I dont even have a problem with the edginess of hip hop itself. BUT CMON FELLAS, surely you dont think the average black man is a drug dealing, hoe busting, gat popping gangsta :snoop:

Of course not, but shouldn't this be expected of the mainstream population? What ever made you think that cacs believed young black men to be normal individuals not involved in any criminality? Entertainment has an impact on real life tho since culture conditions groups to believe in things and behave in certain ways. Stop snitching is a prime example of this. There are 30 and even 40 year old black folk that still listen to Hip Hop but its much older stuff. I just find it weird that everyone has a stone to throw as Hip Hop when it has been completely hijacked. Hip Hop is black culture, unfortunately the people we're so concerned with getting acceptance from have an extremely basic idea of Black culture on the whole.

It doesn't.
But a large segment of the population seems to be obsessed with discussing rappers and hip hop fashion.

It's hard to speak in generalities without someone accusing another of racism but do you find kids talking more about the latest song that came out......or the latest Cornel West and Tavis Smiley book that came out?

Most, most, black ppl don't like Hip-Hop.

Think about it, Rap came in the late 70's and there was plenty classic music out. And ppl though it was a fad, until corporate America came...

I see what you're saying and that's mostly close minded individuals that don't know anything. there are likely plenty of black folks that listen to music other than hip hop. but are they socially accepted by their peers for listening to different genres? I'm sure this site is majority black, or close to it. are other genres being listened to by the black community? any of you guys listen yourselves? lately I been liking alternative music like imagine dragons, hip hop doesn't seem as good as before . but I'm not black so I can't comment on your communities.

To what degree. If you don't reinforce the notice (i.e suggest or incline it) then frankly there is no truth. I feel that society is too obsessed with labels.

Additionally we have to distinct hip hop from rap. Personally, these are two very different genres. Though they employ similar elements, they are not identical.

Stop feeding the wolves and eventually they will leave!

This is true. My dad was telling me back when rap music first came out. My uncle(cool ass dude, still tries to listen to rap and shyt at 60) was the only one in the hood bumping rap music and everyone used to look at him like :dahell:.

Hip Hop isn't a genre, it's a culture. Rap is the music of Hip Hop culture.
