First off, what is a "black film" to you? Then post what you think are the greatest black films of all time in this order:
Top 5 GOAT (Should have been nominated/won the Oscar)
4 honourable mentions (Personal favourites)
1 hidden gem (Never been given proper recognition)
Totalling 10 films. If you have trouble deciding what you consider a black film, try googling...

If you feel that a "black film" can be a film made by a black director or writer, but starring white actors, we will leave that up for debate.
i through this was about our personal opinion

why does Oscar nomination(white validation) a factor.

.just cause i think a black was well done or met the criteria for mainstreamr award recognition don't mean it's a personal fave.
anyway by your own standards
Love Jones(was kinda boring but yet still kept my attention throughout cause of well written the dialogue and the infectious performances from the caste )
The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete(depressing but hopeful ending and if Precious can win an Ocar for this doom and gloom type dysfunctional ghetto family story why can't this)
Menace 2 Society(not really a hood crime movie kinda guy but this was arguable the best from the genre and had a strong message)
The 5 Heartbeats(black classic, not one of my top but mainstream film awards love movies about black musicians from the civil right era and this one of the few that didn't put me to sleep everything i watch it)
Creed(didn't like the ending but i can understand the accalim it has received)
The Last Dragon(while take issue with that the lead and his love interest were mutts playing blackfolk and the little kids intervening in the showdown between Bruce Leroy and cac mob boss's goons was corny this is sentimental favorite and a black classic)
Foxy Brown( this is one of the goat black action star/sex symbols Pam Grier most noteworthy works)
Black Dynamite(other than the lame ending and the c00nish backstory about the antagonist being an ex Vietnam vet this was a flawless parody and blaxploitation flick)
Blackbelt Jones(lowkey Jim Kelly was not that far behind/arguably on par with Bruce Lee as far as karate action heros and this was the movie that convinced me)]
River Niger(the first time i watched this whole movie i weeped real nikka tears at the end)
