As a kid, gimmick and entertainment meant everything to me. I could not give a shyt or tell who was wrestling well. The old guys just plodding along, that was their style, and most just captivated me with the promos and character. For instance I always loved watching Macho Man, even in his last days at WCW when he was clearly shot. His gimmick and how intense he was just made it better than watching a cruiserweight classic, etc.
Now that I've grown, just from simply having watching so much and understanding the craft more, I can see when people are good in-ring, and so I respect them. But I still like the build-up angles to the match, the battle on the mic (I know this is scripted now so not so much), people just showing their natural charisma.
I would rather watched a roided immobile Steiner than a prime Bret Hart. Why? Steiner's promo is gonna be more entertaining, and although Bret is gonna be prolific in the ring, Steiner is still gonna wrestle with intensity and swagger, and look like a monster physically.
