Entertainers. The Rock is my personal GOAT and I love wrestlers like Y2J and Scott Steiner.

Rob Van Dam is my second GOAT tho, he was ok on the mic but the athleticism was off the charts

Terry Funk is more of an entertainer I guess.

Misawa more of an athlete? Not really?

Not sure I have an answer. As long as the wrestler makes me be engaged on what's he's doing and makes it make sense, I'm all in :ehh:

I gotta disagree with you about Bret and Bryan. The knock on them was that they were great technicians but terrible promos. Also, they're somewhat known outside of wrestling

Bryan has become an incredible promo and has been one for half a decade. That can't be a knock on him anymore.

A combination of both, somebody who can bring it in the ring and on the mic. You don't have to be an in-ring technician but as long as you can be entertaining in the ring like The Rock it's cool cause some wrestlers have these big complex characters but when the bell rings I could care less cause their matches are horrible, like Bray Wyatt.
Elias' character isn't complex but he fits this description, entertaining in promos but when he has a match you're like :snooze:

Back in the attitude era it was entertainers. But now I'm about that hard hitting, athletic, competitive match that's grueling and dramatic.

Somebody that can do both is what I mostly prefer but I lean further toward entertainers/characters.

Sometimes, I've gone on the Network or Youtube just to watch promos or angles that led up to feuds or heel/face turns... the matches would be cool in many cases but the gold was in the promos nshyt- i.e. Macho Man, Rock, Flair, Punk, Austin...

You need to have a character that you embody that talks, functions, and carries itself in a way that makes sense. Too gimmick heavy and you tend to be a shyt worker, too workrate heavy and you tend to have no personality. It’s important to strike the right chord in the middle
