Everyone who says he only plays mutes must've literally only seen Drive and/or (heard of) Only God Forgives.

Gosling is a great actor, with a lot of range. But what makes him 'special', or at least one of Hollywood's hottest commodities, is that he generally picks his roles very carefully (I'll be ignoring the bad picks down here, although what they have in common is that they're all studio flicks he did to keep his name out there).

Dude had to build his career of Young Hercules and instead of going on the heart throb tour right away he starred in respected drama's like Remember The Titans (oh yeah, I bet you all forgot he was in that) and The Believer (which one might call his American History X).

Then he capitalized on his heart throb status with The Notebook, which is the ultimate romantic tear jerker of all romantic tear jerkers and got girls wet for him to this very day.

Instead of capitalizing on that and getting into bigger movies, he went on the indie tour, becoming a critical darling with strong performances in small productions like Half Nelson, Lars And The Real Girl and Blue Valentine.

Coming of that critical acclaim he went and upped his Hollywood profile again with Crazy, Stupid Love (capitalizing of his heart throb status once more) and The Ides Of March (lead role in a George Clooney production, big deal).

Then Drive happened. What people don't know about Drive, is that this was originally intended as an action vehicle for Hugh Jackman. The original director left, and the new director got rid of Jackman and got Gosling. Gosling then talked the producers to get rid of the director (!) and got to hand pick the new director, Nicolas Winding Refn, himself, with whom he turned Drive into the ultimate cross-over movie, an arthouse action thriller.

It was a movie they had total control over and it worked completely. Refn finally had his American breakthrough (he bankrupted himself with his first attempt with Fear X) while Gosling got his most iconic role yet.

The guy is now at a point in his career where he could do any movie he wants, so what does he do? He's continuing to work with Refn, his movie making soul mate, and currently directing his self-written debut movie, an opportunity he got because of Drive (same producers).

And the grand plan still isn't finished. Recently he's been getting really cozy with Warner Bros. Crazy Stupid Love and Gangster Squad both were WB movies and he's been attached to their currently-shelved Logan's Run remake for the longest. Recently, they acquired the distribution rights to his debut movie.

You can bet your ass that if he steps into a major blockbuster, it's going to be a WB flick, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to get him in one of the DC movies. Especially since Refn has openly admitted to wanting to do Wonder Woman, so WB might be looking to score both of them (he was also attached to Logan's Run coming of Drive until that movie fell through).

Anyway, the point is, you shyt on Gosling, it means you just don't know your shyt. But what you do know now is why the fukk he's in my avi.

He's fukking up by sticking with Refn, who at this point is still struggling to establish a style for himself. He fell off after the last Pusher. Only God Forgives is an incredibly trashy film. I'm glad Mads Mikkelsen is breaking away from him, too.

Only Efron the Don does it better :smugdraper:

I legit think theres a man crush or worse aspect to it. He has zero impressive acting performances. He NON ACTS all the time. His performance in gangster squad (what a piece of shyt) was atrocious.

I think it's low key homoeroticism (conscious or uncontentious). But, we live in a world where people can't admit to that, so they give all these specious arguments instead.

I brought up the fact it's only been out two years because that's way too early to say a movie's stood the test of time.

Casino Royale rebooted an already classic series and cast a new actor in one of the most renowned roles in film. The series was getting stale and Daniel Craig came through and gave it a completely new life to the point where the series is right back to being at the top of action. The impact is definitely there and I'm not even sure I'd call it classic.

Ok, I'll revise my statement and say it WILL be his classic. And that is obviously subjective as is with everything when it comes to determining the rating of anything.

I’ve only seen a few of his flicks, but I can’t believe this dude played the same stoic mu fukka in them. :dead:

It’s been years since I’ve seen it, but I think Nice Guys was the only flick where I saw him show some emotion. :heh:

Let's pretend that drive was a good movie

How did Ryan Gosling's performance demonstrate anything worthy of stanning?

His "acting" was the least impactful part of that movie

I honestly assume every gosling stan is a troll or is attracted to him
