Wrestling is best base style there is. Look at Jon Jones, the man is still undefeated GOAT, he can use multiple styles and all but his primary base is Greco Roman wrestling. That's why so many wrestlers become MMA fighters.

Controlling your opponent is the most effective way to win a fight. Look at how dominant Khabib is, the dude is another undefeated savage high level wrestler as well.
