One just had a more immediate impact. WCW got a 5 year stay of execution, but still ended up dead. The Attitude Era got Vince that long money, hence why the Saudis paid so well.
But you don't have the Attitude Era if it's not for the Hogan heel turn. Do ya'll not get that the nWo is the reason why the WWE became successful again?

They were pretty much trading ratings wins at before Hogan turned. Like I said, it had a more immediate impact on ratings and business for WCW. WWE became successful again because they had competent people in charge, WWE was not going to go out of business. That was overblown IMO.

"If it wasn't for Hulk Hogan, Eric Bischoff would still be selling meat from a truck in Minneapolis."

One of the most viscous lines of ether in the history of our sport :wow:

Hogan the character didn't cut that promo, Terry Bollea the man cut that promo and meant EVERY word of it

He was still blue blood HHH at the time. They probably would have done a king gimmick like Booker T if it wasn't for the curtain call.

Y'all are leaving out the fact that everything with Austin was natural and organic

With Hoegan it was literally all controlled and forced upon us until it literally made WCW bankrupt.

Austin's promo was real and changed things for the better. Hoegans changed things for the worse

its the other way around actually.

Hogan's heel turn sparked the last boom period in professional wrestling.

Austin's speech wasn't important at all. if the WWE didn't constantly beat us over the head with that clip for years & years, we would only talk about it in retrospective threads like a "1996 WWF" convo or something.

not to mention, he started running that schtick in ECW right before he jumped to the WWF and they made him the ringmaster.

Hogan doesnt turn heel, it doesnt get a larger audeince of both casual and wresting fans going "Hey Hulk Hogan is a bad guy now?:wtf:"
The Outisiders/NWO gimmick while cool would be only a wrestling angle if Hogan doesnt give it that outside attention as the man who made wrestling famous
In turn that not being there doent help WCW get huge. WCW doesnt get huge, WWF doesnt get any compeition and force them to go with Vince, Austin and DX and the whole attitude era as DX

Remember Austin didnt really blow up until close to a year later after the Austn 3:16 speech, it was a steady build and they did sit on him until 97 when they realized what they had. And if NWO isnt on their necks, who knows if they pull the trigger

:whoa:

I was rockin wit you, up until the bolded.

nitro & raw were trading wins in the Monday night wars from DAY ONE. and before nitro even existed, WCW shows usually drew better ratings.

WCW was ALWAYS their competition. youre acting like they WCW was some upstart company like TNA or ROH or somebody. people that didn't even watch wrestling, knew about WCW.

Put social media in that time, Hogan's heel turn would have made national headlines.

All over Facebook, Twitter, ESPN, recognizable names mentioning what happened on Instagram and other platforms

They would have legitimately been talking about it on First Take and Unidsputed :picard:

Week long videos of kids crying that their hero has turned on them:picard:

How was it overblown when people who worked there confirmed how bad things had gotten? They were having RAW in high school gyms during the mid 90s.

Simple. Who won the war? Austin and Rocky outlasted the nwo and Goldberg...the 4 Horsemen...all of them. The Hogan heel turn, at the time, felt bigger than anything in wrestling history. It was unbelievable. It was like a dream. The Tyson/Austin angle was the huge impact change over that had everyone watching though for the WWF. That was surreal too.

The main reason WWE won the war was because of AOL time warner...we don't know if WCW was still around if another cycle they would have lead the ratings war again...think 2003 after Austin and Rock are starting to fade out if WCW was still around and fans had to choose between competition or seeing the terroristic reign of HHH

the death of WCW happened after 4 years of either speech...that's a whole era in wrestling years

Raw was never held in no high school gym :dahell: they were at the Manhattan Center.
