But do you still feel like that's real R&B. I hear more Trap type R&B these days

and even when i hear a new R&B joint done in 70s style it just doesn't sound as good as the real thing from the 70s.

Just becuase its NOT MAINSTREAM dosent mean that it anit good RnB. It a guy who had RnB album of the year last year and it anit many that know dude name...which is coo that how it should be let people sleep and say a genre is dead.

To me last year DSVN had the second best RnB album. How many people talked about it thoe. H.E.R. album was flames ...dontnge me started. I was listening to H.E.R 3 yrs ago. I really could go deep on this topic. I wouldnt have to if the joe budden podcast would do that RnB march maddness style bracket that they have been teaseing for awhile :martin:

I tried to check a lot of R&B on Spotify but non of them could compare to the 70s Soul. That's why i rather stay a nostalgic nerd who listens to the oldies.
I just think music was at it's best in the 70s and the 80s.

Ironically this is the problem :mjlol:. I'm 33 and i love soul music it will never be a era like those 70 80 or 90s. It dosent mean there anit no good RnB.

No No, that's not what i'm trying to say though. I know there's still good R&B but i just prefer to listen to the better R&B from the 70's and 80's. I'm tired of forcing myself to like certain shyt just cause its hot. I used to do that a bit when i was a teenager.

I still like to check for new R&B from time to time. My heart just lies with the 70s Soul the most.

Lack of new stars killed R&B. Keyshia Cole was like the last one that blew up. I don't really recall anyone after her. So it's like 2005 was the last year R&B showed any signs of dominance. After that year Alicia's As I Am was the last R&B album that was really huge that wasn't a Beyonce album.

Probably around 2004. I remember 2003 being an awesome year for R&B, but not much after that was very memorable

2006 when autotune became the culture replacement for traditional black voices trained from the church :hhh:

Justin Timberlake 2nd album dropped in 06, and it changed the dynamics.

Autotune came in, and cheapened the music quality. Also the same time that these RnB singers transitioned into that techno bullshyt. Usher anyone?

It died as soon as t-pain started diluting it with that auto tune mess. From there singing stopped being a major priority.

That's why you started seeing more r&b artists hop on the edm scene because the crooning wasn't selling like it used to.:yeshrug:

Cats hopped onto autotune cause it was a cheap, processed way to make a hit. From there, it gotten a lot worse. Then these trap rappers got on it. Then the trap rappers like Kodak Black started to harmonize on autotune on a trap beat. Then it became this mess where a lot of people can't comprehend old school train of thought or 16 bar verses from rappers anymore. Basically, its the LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR music that runs radio.

lack of groups is also hurting r&b. the harmonizing, layered vocals, and variety that a set of group members can bring to songs is an important element. and even tho i listen to a lot of new r&b artists, and they make good music, i think we're missing "special" voices. there's this certain intonation that some of these younger artists sing in - khalid, sza, ari lennox...that can feel manufactured at times. there also aren't any big voices like whitney, mariah, luther, hell even early 90's k-ci.

Yup
