What was the point of Fat Thor in Avengers Endgame? @BryanDanielson get in here

It displayed how depressed he was for failing to save everyone in IW. The scene where he kills Thanos and then he initially refused to help with the time heist were well acted and showed the characters depression as well.

People in here love complaining about marvel being kiddy popcorn films without depth when Thor actually has a incredibly tragic arc throughout the films (evil brother who is eventually killed in front of him once he’s redeemed, mom killed, planet destroyed and dad died, evil sister who father lied about, failed to save universe and goes into crippling depression, loses girl friend)

Right how did you miss that, he was depressed from seeing his family and friends killed and failing to defeat thanos. They were all depressed in different ways, Hawkeye became ronin, hulk went into hiding etc. someone with an ego like that getting their ass whipped and failing to save the galaxy should have taken it hard. Thor being fat was the way they chose to show his depression, also to be so fit that’s the alternative.

They actually touched on Tony's drinking problem in Iron Man 2. They just didn't run with that narrative for his whole MCU run.
No way they were going to touch the Hank Pym spousal abuse angle in the midst of cancel and still have him be a good guy like in the comics, people were still bringing up the fact that Tobey's peter smacked MJ after he mentioned his relationship in no way home. That's unredeemable to modern audiences

From a story perspective, Fat Thor was a thing because we know Thor came in with Stormbreaker and gave Thanos that work.

It wouldn't make sense for there to be a final battle if Thor was regular. He would just do it again but just go for the head.

Fat Thor brought Endgame down my list alot, cheap laughs werent needed, i guess it was hard to pull off a skinny depressed Thor without having the actor starve himself for the visual
