What was the hype like when PS3 & 360 was first announced?

I was a bit late when it came to E3 during the next gen era back in the mid 00's, so I'm a bit clueless.

I can imagine the excitement from people going from substandard PS2/Xbox graphics to more realistic looking ones .

Any videos of E3 from that time or videos showing people's reactions?

I didnt particualy care about the ps3. we copped xbox on the strength of gears alone... for me that was my decision plus that pirce tag for the ps3 had me like:

When PS3 was announced, everyone I knew thought it was OVER for Xbox, but that was before the 599 US Dollars announcement

Im 20, and I remember it perfectly when I got my 360. I got Hitman and Madden 06 and Rainbow 6. I was in 6th grade I think.

I waited in line and spent the night outside Target with my best friend so he could get the PS3. The dude who had the #1 spot in the line was sitting there only to sell the console on ebay. The shortage was so real that people were making a grip on ebay. That's why a lot of us did multiple preorders for the quad but the shortage wasn't as bad especially since you could just click on Amazon and have it sent to your doorstep the same day. I didn't get mine until 08 when GTA came out.
