What was it like watching the attitude era as it was it happening?

Anybody go to any shows in person then?

I was at Raw the night DX invaded WCW. :banderas:

I may be blending two different Raws together, but I swear I went to a Raw where DX had reformed sometime in 2000, then at the end of the night, Triple H turned on them that same show :dead:the crowd was HEATED. There was another Raw I remember going to and it was the first time I had heard Right To Censor's theme, it was SOOOOOO irritating and the crowd was boo'ing Steven Richards out of the building:laff:.

I was around 12-15 at the time.

The biggest thing was that it was just really cool in terms of pop culture appeal. Before, wrestling was a bit of this niche, hush hush thing you were into. Suddenly, even the popular guys/gals were into it. It just felt very hip in terms of where pop culture was at the time.

When a house show came to my dinky town, practically my entire school went. Crowd was amped. Kids were doing the DX chops etc. Even at a Raw taping in 97 , the crowd was insanely hot. Tons of midcard guys were getting pops that top guys today would kill for.

I always found out funny how Vince was trying to pretend kids weren't watching, that it was all 18-35 year olds.
I was in elementary school during the Attitude era and EVERYBODY was watching that shyt. And they were still selling tons of toys. Kids were watching it for sure. That's why those guys still carry heavy nostalgia.

Not only crowd signs, but creative ones. Other than WM, I feel like crowd signs have gradually been micromanaged out of the WWE, and it may have started way after Attitude. May have been the start of PG or something. They practically give you the signs they want you to have :mjlol:
those signs used to say whatever...all types of profanity

the craziest thing about that time was the cultural relevance.

news, radio, school or wherever everybody would talkin about wwf

i remember my grade school teachers making wrestling references. like it was fully ingrained in society. shyt was wild
shyt, my introduction to wrestling was seeing Stone Cold on Celebrity Deathmatch and then my dad hyping up Stone Cold and The Rock

So according to Wikipedia the ruthless aggression era was 2002-2008. In which case I'll say 1999-2003 were the best years from what I remembered imo. I still remember that smackdown where it was the Dudley Boyz vs edge and Christian vs Hardy Boyz vs Benoit and Jericho in a TLC match. shyt was legendary. Crazy how that wasn't a pay per view match..

When Hall popped up on Nitro and did the angle..i didn't know shyt about dirt sheets...any of that. So we thought something was going on and then Nash popped up and it looked like WWF vs WCW at long last. Nacho Man...the Huckster..old man Flair...the way he was talking..it was MUST SEE TV.

Bash of the Beach 96..my best friend ordered it and we was glued. Hogan heel turn was such a shocking sight..the way they SOLD IT on commentary along with the money promo by Hogan was just perfect.

I never fukked with Bret or Shawn...I liked Rick Rude , Austin, Taker....never understood why they doing world title matches with Chippendale Michaels while Razor was much hotter than he ever was with fans.

Austin was comical as a heel in 96 but the nwo was MUST SEE though. I loved Austin harassing Bret Hart..by the time we got to difference maker which was Tyson and Austin night after Rumble 98..Austin was super popular with regular fans and the Tyson thing mad national news and sold WM 14.

It was a glorious time.....Godfather and Rikishi were so over..Jericho's debut...Lita was on fire...Benoit almost never lost unless it was Rock/Austin/Cripple H/Jericho....Trish was getting booed for putting clothes on...
