I read The Shallows about a year and a half ago.

Good book and made me think about some things, plus there is a really good chapter in there about Google which was eyeopening.

I wouldn't say that the internet is bad, yet. I think people want to be doom and gloom about it but we simply don't know how the internet has rewired our brains yet and we haven't seen the full impact that the internet as a technology has had on us as people.

The Shallows actually goes into the invention of the book and the advent of silently reading and how that changed the way people thought and how they interacted in the world. But it took years to see what kind of change was in store. Same with us now.

Once I read that book I realized how much time I spend on the internet, 10 tabs open etc. One thing that has helped me is an app for Chrome called Strict Pomodoro that blocks websites and distractions for any amount of time. I use that when I want to write and I used it for studying when I was still in school. I've also mentioned Readability on here as well which takes articles and just puts it on a white webpage with no links or distractions which helps me immensely.

I've also been slowly weaning myself from here, and basically all social networks. Fight the good fight brehhs, we can do this :obama:

I ain't even got my comp right now. I'm at my girl's crib and I'm browsing on my phone and watching TV. :wow2:

So you're a "youngin in school" and you're lecturing normal people about talking a day off from the computer, when you don't even have to worry about shyt?

My job revolves around being at a computer.

I can't take a 4 hour lunch break just to clear my head.

When you try to use your lounging around in Starbucks as a model for our behavior, you sound stupid.

:hardonhoes:

I don't get what your point is. The library is open til 9pm and Starbucks stays open to 12:30am.

How you choose to spend your evevnings / free time is up too you. I just leasurely spend my spend my evenings at the library rather than doing the latter.

The main reason why I never choose computer science as a major, stems from an unhealthy habit I used to have of being on the computer all day...

This cat is really mad, because I kick it in the library reading books for 3-4 hours a day. :heh:
