Because of the offensive-similarities that the '00s Chiefs teams had to the '90s Cowboys team (minus Irvin), don't make them basically the same team at all. It was never their offense (passing game) that held them back from taking that next step, it was their defense. From 2000-2005 they were amongst the league's worst defenses; whereas that Cowboys era-team had a top 5 defense from 1992-1996.
There's certainly a lot of poor arguments in favor of Irvin in this thread.
Their arguments are poor because they have nothing. They're just like, "Well he's the playmaker and he won rings." Like we measure WRs by their rings and Tim Brown, Cris Carter, Torry ****, Marvin H______n, Isaac Bruce, etc. wouldn't have won rings on that stacked ass Dallas team.
No one's saying Michael Irvin wasn't a great WR, he's just incredibly overrated. He's sorta like the Reggie Miller of football. He had high name recognition, personality, and memorable moments. And he made the HOF while more deserving candidates are still waiting.
That's my only point. I'm not trying to shyt on Irvin. He just should be compared to people like Tim Brown and Isaac Bruce. You can barely even compare him to Cris Carter. Instead, we have people talking about he was clearly the best WR of the 90's mentioning him in the same breath with Jerry Rice (PBUH), Skip Bayless saying he was better than Rice and not getting laughed out of the room by the panel, getting into the HOF in either his 1st or 2nd eligible year and everyone saying he deserves it because he was "the playmaker" while people like Andre Reed, Tim Brown, and Cris Carter are on the bubble, and he made the top 100 players of all time list.
That top 100 players list was
How can anyone in their right mind really say Michael Irvin was a top 100 NFL player of all time??? Every other WR on the list revolutionized the game at the WR position...Don Hutson, Paul Warfield, Lance Alworth, and all them old dudes, Rice, Moss. Irvin just performed highly and roughly commeasurate with his peers at the time like Rison, Sharpe, Herman Moore, etc. and clearly wasn't the best WR of his era. T.O. didn't even make the list. Michael Irvin was better than T.O.?
