any payphone was free if you knew the "collect call" hack.

When you dial collect, it asks you to say your name, then is plays that recording to the person you called and they choose whether or not the accept the charges to talk to you.
What we did back in the day was instead of saying our name, we'd leave a whole message really fast. like please say your name after the beep "Beeeep hey dad, i'm at school come pick me up beeep"
Dad would be like cool, decline the charges and come pick us up.
curious if everybody did this or if it was just people i know. Haven't really heard it come up in a conversation before
