Juwan Howard comes to mind
A 24 year old all star power forward?

I get what you are saying but it's with hindsight.

No idea, but he was the first player to sign a $100M contract I believe.

When did the NBA institute the max contract restrictions?
Shaquille was the first 100 mill player

Juwan was later

i dunno but the shyt is fukked when Rudy gay makes the same as Bron, rudy's getting 20, Bron should get 50 mil

LeBron is just playing the game right now, taking short contracts. When the cap rises and given the amount of years he'll have been in the league, he should be able to sign for like 5 years 200 mill in 2017.

Nah Mourning and Howard signed theirs first. In Shaq's book he says he saw what they signed for and was determined to get more from the Lakers.

I would like to think DeMarre Carrol opened the floodgates this summer for guys who probably will never make an All-Star team but still get the max (on their scale).

When did the NBA institute the max contract restrictions?
During the lockout in 1998. nikkas was mad that the Wolves gave Kevin Garnett a 6 year $126 million contract after 2 seasons in the league, and that was pretty much the cause of the lockout.

Owners were worried that the Wolves were handicapping themselves and they wouldn't be able to sign good supporting players due to a lack of cap space. They knew if they didn't stop it right away, that it wouldn't stop.

In hindsight, once you think about how Marbury forced his way out of Minnesota because they were trying to be cheap with him and the whole Joe Smith, under the table contract ordeal, combined with the fact that KG always had a garbage supporting cast until they got Sprewell and Sam Cassell for that one season, those "hater owners" were right.
