Dominicans and Puerto Ricans are mixed, with the latter group being predominantly Euro. They are not like African Americans.

Cubans and Brazilians are also mixed, but they have a greater affinity for African culture and many of them are still predominantly African like AAs.

The difference is that colorism is more pervasive in those other countries.

In Brazil there are multiple categorizations for black and black admixture depending on the skin tone of the person. In Latin America, a lot of blacks/mulattos with European admixture disassociate themselves from their blackness and choose to consider themselves a separate racial category. You should remember they still have unofficial caste systems in these countries.

Blacks in America are far more inclusive, where a 'black' person with European admixture that could pass for white would still be accepted and even choose to be considered as black.

Actually if African Americans took DNA tests they would probably find out that their closest relations are other African Americans and then people in the Caribbean; particularly the Dominicans, Haitians, Jamaicans Puerto Ricans and Cubans. The reason for that is most American slaves were taken to the Islands to be broken and made into slaves before being brought to the USA; because no one willing becomes a slave.

My family has lived in the USA for hundreds of years in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. When I took a DNA test I learned that I have Dominican ancestors, but no one in my family has any recollection or family records showing that we lived anywhere except Virginia, North Carolina or Tennessee. And we have some family historians that keep pretty good records.

I don't know why some slaves were brought to the USA and why others were left in the Caribbean; but DNA is pointing out that the people in the Caribbean are our closest living relatives; even closer in time than the Africans.

American slaves being brought from the Caribbean islands is a myth that wont go ago. Most American slaves came straight from Africa due to specific task needed. I'm too lazy to expand. So I'll leave it at that. Agree-disagree...
