As an African in America (I'm African and West Indian...my mom is from St. Kitts), I've embraced all fellow black folks...whether they be AA or West Indian or African...

I know how most white people are...they don't f*ck with us. Try telling that to some of these people though.

They get upset when the "PAWGs" they worship don't want shyt to do with them...and still want the greater white society to accept them. They act weird when people like us see them for who they really are and embrace our own heritage and people and actually want to help other black folks...as if that's somehow racist. Cause they've taken the idea of how white people see racism and apply it to themselves when it doesn't even apply.

They've been so used to fraternizing, doing business with, and giving their money to non-blacks that the idea of fraternizing with, doing business with, and giving their money to other black people seems "weird". They're the type to go into a situation where they're surrounded by white people, and a few other blacks and don't make eye contact with each other or associate with them. They've still bought into this falsehood of "the illusion of inclusion" and when that fantasy is gone and the reality is their right in their face...they don't want to accept it.

Newsflash...it doesn't matter how many white friends you have...they don't accept us and never will. The fact I actually have to say that is sad. You can just look in a history book and figure this out.

no doubt. my parents schooled me on the evils of whites early on. And i used to give them such as hard time about it to. I remember even one day my dad kicked my ass for hanging out a random cac's house when i was ten. He had a computer and i didn't so i went over his house after school without telling them before hand. This was a big no no because my mom and dad didn't know who the fukk these cacs were. I got my ass kicked that day, but the next week my moms went and bought me and my brothers and sisters a computer.

Love my moms btw...

It was ouur first one. A compaq. shyt chagned my life. Cost us about $5000, which was alot for my moms who was substitute teaching at the time and my dad who was doing the janitorial work.

It's so sad and annoying. And the great lengths people are going to genuinely shame black who dare to have the audacity to speak up, Whose side are you on ?! I'm very aware of who I am thank you very much. I have my Ghana flag on my desk and a picture of me and my black S.O right next to it.

Working in IB has actually made me MORE conscious believe it or not. When thrown around white people black people either

A) attempt to blend in
B) capitalise on being different and stick together.

The few mentors and friends ive made in IB are all black. We go to black events together, visit diversity days at universities to recruit black undergrads, we see us working in IB as a way to bring more people in. Hence my annoyance when the black kids I spent months prepping for interviews didn't land roles.

Blacks on Wall Street actually have strong networks. Work is work you go in make your money them GTFO. That's how ive always seen it. Many immigrants end up in white institutions. We clock in and out and leave.

I'm always getting feedback on not being 'friendly' enough. I'm not in the office baring my teeth. I ensure my work speaks for itself and that's it.

Just sad to me that the idea of black people who have done something with themselves having such strong pride seems so far fetched to you. It speaks volumes about your environment and your own life as you're projecting majorly on to us.

yeah, same here. A lot of my older relatives are like that. They are/were VERY VERY pro-black. Only reason why I knew was b/c I'd eavesdrop on their conversations about Random stuff like politics and economics and society.

TBH my parents were one of the only ones who weren't like that. They were more along the lines of "Not only are you black, but your a foreigner too. That's two strikes against you. That means You have no choice but to work 2X harder than the White kids" .
