Why would this make my "heart hurt"? Do you see how dumb you guys are? First off, I am an American born with dual citizenship. I happen to live in Toronto (and I used to live out West, Fort Mac to be specific) for work. I never denied the amount of influence Black Americans have on Canada, and the world. But again, all you guys did was cite music, and you did so again. Not literature, not business, not politics, not even jazz or blues, but rap music. That tells a lot about you guys.
I said forms as in plural and we uses hip hop because of the irony of you guys using a black American cultural board to express yourselves. The fukking irony. To mention jazz etc is over kill. And again point out your culture so we can even see what else we influence. Unless you don't have one...

I'm saying yall do take from black America.
Yall don't talk or dress like people from your home country
Of course Black Canadian culture has taken a lot from Black American culture, Black American culture has heavily influenced BC culture. I never denied this.
As for the latter, this is a sweeping generalization, and you guys concluded your opinions based off rap music alone.

This thread is pathetic. Not the question asked, but most of the answers.

Brehs cry about racism and whatnot then act disgusted when called African or Haitian and would rather shyt on other Black men to defend their country.

"We gon be alright" huh

nikkas on this board are American before black.

Caribbean culture is from the Islands. Show me Black Canadian culture.
That's asinine. Black Canadians, as in those who were descendants from slaves, are significantly smaller than Blacks living in Canada that come from Trini, Jamaica, Somalia, and so on. If you want a specific example of an already existing Black Canadian culture than you would have to look at places like Africville in Nova Scotia (large settlement that escaped slaves lived in). They had a once thriving community, and was also home to an all black hockey organization "Colored Hockey League", not seen elsewhere in Canada. I heard now that they're trying to revive the area again, since it was heavily hit and practically destroyed because of racist government policies and actions.

Literature is probably the best area which you could look at a distinct Black Canadian culture. An example of a re-owned Black Canadian author would be Lawrence Hill, Dionne Brand, Dionne Brand. Again, a lot of these writers are either descendants from Slaves or born to immigrant parents (the Caribbeans or Africa). But they're all still Black Canadians.

Black Canadians are not solely those that are descendants from Slaves, like it is in the States, and the culture itself is heavily influence by Black Americans, Caribbeans, or Africans. So yes, I can use the annual Caribbean as an example since it's a cultural event that seeks to promote and celebrate Caribbean culture. Those who participate in this event or either born to immigrant parents or are immigrant themselves.

Nice try tho.

How is that an "utter defeat"? I never argued that Black American culture never had a major influence in Black Canadian culture.

:what: So? Im arguing that Black Canadians do not co-opt Black American culture en masse because in most cases they already have their own.

Look fam it's not my fault if you guys suffer from reading comprehension skills. This is like the fifth time I said this.

Another stupid post. I am an American born (LA), have said so since I joined this board. Look it up. Spent some time in the bay, now I work in Toronto/Fort Mac. So don't call me "you guys".

It's really easy to see all the c00ns in this site. You're an American first, but Black second. You try to seclude other Blacks and ridicule other Blacks for being heavily influenced by Black American culture. I don't see yall getting bent out of shape over these Koreans or Japanese guys making trap music and other types of rap music. But a Black guy from London does it and all hell breaks loose.

I find it incredibly sad that you guys didn't point out anything from literature, from politics, from business, and so on, but you run straight to rap music.

That was mentioned along with culture in general.
In general? Naw the only examples they cited was from rap music, merely saying "in general BC steal from BA because, blah blah blah" doesn't count, it's to general and not specific.

I forgot to add this,

The Caribbean festival is apart of Black Canadian culture, despite the culture itself is not Native to Canada. The annual promotion and celebration has become apart of the identity of Toronto that is not only celebrated by Caribbeans, but of different people that have different cultures and traditions.

I've been to Jamaica and I've been to Canada. I could tell the difference between a Jamaican Canadian and a Jamaican.
I have cousins there. Their culture looked like a mix of AA and Jamaican culture.

:mjlol: Do your grandparents dress like this? Were they in the trap as well?:comeon:

Nah, my grandparents are Jamaican.
