Yeah, I honestly think he just hates what the Republican Party has become and wants to stand up and say that's not who he is.

I don't think he's aiming for power, and I don't think he's cynically trying to manipulate anyone. I think he just straight doesn't fukk with Trumpism and is one of the few Republicans with the guts to say so openly. That doesn't mean the shyt he does support are great principles, but at least he rejected one worst-case scenario.

My guess is he's trying to model a path for "non insane" Republicans, he's the only one who has learned the policy lessons of the Trump admin, everyone else even the populist icons are reverting to the Paul Ryan era but he's tried to provide a "third way"

i think he knows he will never be president.

he is rich as fukk and probably just prefers being considered "respectable" and not hated as much as mitch when he goes out in public or some shyt.

fukk him and every republican politician alive tho
He’s literally McCain without the military service.

His infamous Russia warning gives him fair clout too. You can see Rubio trying to style himself more like a Romney lowkey

I think if Trump runs again, he runs for President. If Trump doesn't run again, he runs for re-election in Utah

He'd probably have to make that decision very quickly given he's up for reelection in 2024 and will more than likely have someone trying to primary him from the right.

He STILL wants to be President. There are some Republicans positioning themselvers as the "rational set" but they can't figure out how to get through the nomination process.

They're all hoping there's going to be some grand reawakening where someone fukks up so bad REpublicans are shamed into turning away from Trump. But, it'll never happen. The GOP unleashed a tiger they had by the tail, nothing they can do to put that cat back in the cage.

He's not that delusional, he openly admits that he is unpopular in his party. He would tell you today that Trump controls the party and not him

if for some reason Trump doesnt run then Romney would have a chance. Im not convinced DeSantis would directly inherit all of Trumps base and there is a chance that that wing of the party would get split by DeSantis and one or two others while Romneys wing could coalesce around him giving him a plurality. Its not entirely unfeasible. I dont think Mitt would stand a chance against Trump heads up though

He's not going to run for POTUS again. Too old, and wouldn't stand a chance against Trump or Desantis anyway.

Probably just wants to distance himself from the current GOP because he knows how history will look at them, plus he knew she was getting confirmed anyway.
