What is it about “Laffy Taffy” that is so offensive to hiphop heads?

Laffy Taffy has nothing to do with Little Brother and Bas not gaining traction

Lupe blew up when Laffy Taffy was out

Catchy songs always pop more than lyrical songs

this was the shyt they (BET/Viacom) were pedaling around the time Little Brother was deemed “too intelligent” for the network

So while there may be no direct link tying to two together, its not too difficult to draw a parallel

There was a clear agenda in place to dumb down their content in general

to me, that song was just ass.

i understand if you can't be on some super lyrically shyt since not everybody could be on some GZA type shyt in 2005. I was listening to a lot of Jeezy back then and he wasn't really spitting like that but the flows and beat on that laffy taffy shyt was trash.

Where was the same energy for MC Hammer, Vanilla ICE, Heavy D

Unless you want to say this record was being played during a time where hiphop heads had a big voice during peak rap forum era in the mid 00s

Hammer and Vanilla Ice are trash too.

who the fukk have them nikkaz in their top 10 of all time despite both of them going Diamond?

the beat had a candy ass cheap melody straight out of a fisher price keyboard

the raps were not worth listening to

it was a fun record but that shyt was the definition of rap dying.

i def bring Laffy Taffy and Party Like A Rockstar up as the true beginning of the end...but somehow worse shyt drops every year.
Everything wrong with this era traces back to 2005-07. WOAT time period in rap maybe ever :snoop:

Imagine having your head so deep in the sand regarding any music made before 2003 that you don't know how absolutely despised Hammer and Vanilla Ice were. Damn near every rapper alive in 1990-91 was clowning them, In Living Color was roasting the fukk out them, hip-hop media was deriding them as the WOAT artists and were scared hip-hop was losing its grip until things set themselves straight in '91 and they fell off. Now them dudes are punchlines.

Stop exposing yourself, dawg :mjlol:

yeah like we're desensitized to the whole "i dont care about being able to rap" shyt now but back then it was kinda jarring because even the wack shyt before that had better beats and rhymes.

u asked why didnt D4L receive the same energy as mc hammer and vanilla ice did when they were rapping and we are saying that they did.

you brought them up.

That post said the song Laffy Taffy was a joke in the culture and that’s not true
