Lol, at these posts.

He was the lead singer to the most popular band at the time. He also died right before his popularity was dwindling, (I love In Utero, but a lot of people weren't fukking with it at the time. Pearl Jam was actually far more popular at the time, until the Unplugged hit, where people realized Cobain was immensely talented.) He's an easy punchline for most rappers, when referencing suicide because it was shocking at the time.

He has an influence over some of the younger rappers who love selling that their suicidal. But, none of them are as creative or unique as he is. They just use it as an uncreative way to say "LOOK AT HOW DIFFERENT I AM," even though they all mention the same dude.

I wouldn't say he influenced 90's rappers, but let's not act like he wasn't a constant fixture on MTV from 90-94. They knew who he was and respected his craft.

I know but it expanded on the sound sorta. I never even thought of it until now

Why you gza was on geffen? The gtrs on 4th chamber; erc. There was an overlap between the genres which is how so many white kids got into wu or even public enemy. Wu Skateborda n shyt. Both youth musics, kinda cross balance like punk n hip hop in the 80s.

Least thats how i took it ya know watching tv seeing rappers n rock guys doing those shows n shyt; so dude was well known. Didnt 2pac mention cobain or some shyt. That stiry was everywhere, it influenced everybody. Idk.

Im not saying this for fact just my opinion.

I mean he gets out on the same pedestal as pac n big, someones listening. Hear it more now than ever.

Apparently pe it takss a nation one of hia fav albums

Apparently freddie gibbs is a huge fan which makes sense cause i really like gibbs and his music has the same feel im talking about.

I'm listening to this now and then I came across your post.:sadbron:

Nirvana and Public Enemy shared a mutual respect in the late '80s and early '90s, and the two groups co-headlined the Reading Festival in 1992. Kurt once listed PE's It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back as one of his favorite albums, and lead rapper Chuck D referenced his suicide in 1999's "Do You Wanna Go Our Way???," rapping "Figure I smashed the pumpkin / So I parallel the brains of Cobain."

I don't know how the thread went much further than this post.

Kurt Cobain had absolutely no influence on hip hop music and culture back then, but I see his influence everywhere now in regards to nikkas being comfortable portraying themselves as suicidal dope fiends.

Teen Spirit was a cool record back then, that's probably the record Onyx was referring to, but it didn't influence a damn thing.
Here is the Onyx video I referenced.

I said nothing about Kurt Cobain being responsible for Dre incorporating rock elements into his music, being the reason hip hop got "dark" or the reason people wear ripped jeans, jesus christ...I never even said he had an overt, direct influence on how people spit raps or program drums, but it seems like some nikkas in here a simple minded.

Dr. Dre, as one of the most influential figures in the culture as a whole being a fan of Nirvana gives you an idea where he sits in the consciousness of Hip Hop as a collective as your "favorite rappers favorite rocker" to flip that phrase.

There hasn't been a more iconic figure in rock music across the time line of the culture for rappers and fans to identify with. If there is a resurgence of rock-rap going on, I would say it's reasonable to surmise that he a substantial amount of influence on it. Two of the more influential artists that you can credit for that are huge fans of Nirvana and Kurt as an individual, I don't see how that can be reduced to zero influence. There has to be a little middle ground here, but this is the coli.

Understood. My reply spoke specifically about the idea of Kurt Cobain having a musical influence on Dre.

nikkas on here are dense, they only gauge influence by who is biting off of who because they are generally inauthentic about this shyt anyway.

Again, if influence is about having an effect on the character, development and behavior, you can't tell me that he didn't have an effect a lot of these new wave rappers who make everybody mad trying to deviate from 'hippity hop' and dress, behave and craft music like rock stars. Unless you're going to deny that, the next logical step is to examine where it stems from. Wherever you want to start the Hip Hop timeline til current day...name ONE person more iconic in the rock genre that Hip Hop heads would know more about or identify with?

People will give Wayne credit for ushering in the 'rock star' wave...where the fukk you think he got that from? As per his own words.

It ain't rocket science. And it's usually the indirect influencers that actually sway things more so than people who fall prey to biting because that's how it's supposed to be. You're supposed to take your inspiration and weave it into your own thing. nikkas talmbout "bu bu bu who quotes their lyrics though! where's the hashtags, who's wearing their clothes?!".

Eminem
Nirvana

You really want these white dudes to be influential lol
