Super late reply but it took me decades to realize this: The catalyst for Vince was the NBC and MTV connection.
Now if the host of SNL still calls in sick and Vince puts say idk Slaughter and Mr T on there is it the same? Maybe but it dont hit as well.
I think Slaughter being on GI Joe elevates them but I also think Roddy Piper doing stuff with Cyndi Lauper on MTV helps WWF tremendously in the mainsteam but they dont have that right babyface in Hogan. I could see Slaughter guesting on A Team though
If verne runs with Hogan and lets him go on Carson etc after Rocky then they are up a level
In short I think the Wretling landscape becomes a bit more competitive for the mainstream.
If Verne and Crokett had the vision of Vince to put their guys on mainstream shows as cable is forming then we got an interesting situation for sure
