Now its time for the supposed "kings" of NY to step up and bring that sound back but UPDATE it so these young fans can appreciate it like we did. I say the elders need to step up. Nas did his part, LIG is what 2012 NY hiphop should sound like. Hopefully Jay steps up and makes some good music instead of some pop bullshyt. Ain't like Jay need the money hope he doing his next one for the love

This is all fan driven. If fans are mostly teeny boppers with no knowledge of Hip Hop and can only relate to what's currently poppin then this pattern will self replicate from now till infinity. 
This is why the shyt gettin burn right now can't really be categorized as 'Hip Hop' cause the fans shyt on emcee skills. It's like, if you try to squeeze more than two words in each bar they give you the

If every NY song sounded like something Salaam Remi would produce and something Nas would choose, I'd blow my head off. LIG was a very good album, but hardly a template that all of NY should imitate. What works for Nas (and it doesn't always work for him) doesn't always work for everyone else.
In a nutshell, a huge component of the NY sound is that it's sample driven. We love samples on top of samples on top of samples. They're harder to clear, harder to put out and harder to officially release without paying an arm and a leg. Much of why people like Harry Fraud's stuff is because it's still reliant on samples and the stuff that doesn't sounds very Alchemist-like. When you strip down the NY sound without samples, it sounds basic, generic and dated.
