Idk. But blank face and oxymoron were great albums and his last joint is just ‍♂️. It might be like an Eminem thing for him. Both made there best music when they were high. Energy was always crazy never dull could really make a sone about anything crazy. Schoolboy now has stopped all the extra stuff and lost allot of weight which is great for him and his family in the long run. Can’t be mad at that. But I agree with what poster said earlier he and other TDE artist should have a much bigger presence in rap right now. They are all too talented. Maybe the pandemic slowed down some big label rollout(albums/tours/etc...) they had coming. We will see soon hopefully.

from interviews and press eh never seemed like someone who was interested in making music for the love it and was even less interested in music industry bs. he always looked kind of apathetic and bored (i know he was on drugs at one point but still). after mac died, crash talk flopped, and having another baby i guess he figured he didn’t have to do anything more or prove anything. he got his money and dipped

I feel the LA music scene changed a lot when Mac died. I think Mac played a big role in bringing a lot of these guys together to create. Since his death the output of a lot of these artists hasn’t been the same.

I hate to say it but I think he’s one of those artists who made better music on drugs...that being said I’ve always rooted for him so better that he cleaned himself up and got serious about his health once he got the resources to do so but I do miss that music tho

TDE is the epitome of The Five Heartbeats:

  • Label focusing on Kendrick Lamar when they actually have a whole squad of talented performers
  • Keeps shytting and holding back potential talent (Ab Soul and Isiah Rashad)
  • Keeps trying make someone a "thing" (Pushing Reason when dude is dumpster)
  • SZA= Meal Ticket
  • Treating the game like its 1998 (No TDE in this ADHD era, nobody is going to hover to your freestyle Sundays willingly)
  • Keeping everything in the vault

Such a shame because I was really hyped for the group as a whole, but sadly the thrill is gone...
Man speaking about the vault I'm still mad we will never hear that Ab-Soul X Jmsn project. That shyt would have probably gave Ab Soul a whole different career lol.

That and Nipsey's passing.

I’m kinda feeling like this. Q had potential to be a mainstream artist, but the long layoffs between projects killed that momentum by blank face - that was 2016. At this point, dude is 11 years deep in the game and has gotten progressively less popular. I’m still a fan and am here for his verses or projects, but people need to stop acting like he’s letting popularity, sales, etc slide. He peaked awhile ago and ain’t gonna get no more popular or gain younger fans. Dude is over the hill in that regard. All of TDE’s rappers are except Kendrick. These threads get made like it’s still 2014.
I hear you and most likely that's the case however that's not always the case. I mean look at Jay Rock, he made major moves and made his best album yet later on in his career after multiple setbacks. Wont say he became a major star but he definitely had a bigger presence in the game, was in commercials, nominated for awards and I could go on and on. Had they kept that momentum going Jay Rock could have very well been a star or a more popular artist but they built up momentum and killed it off by not striking while the iron was hot. With that said as talented as Q is I believe he can come back with dope shyt and make another big album, even become a star off personality and charisma as well as the music but he has to want it, he has to have better direction and TDE has to allow their artist in general to release music more consistently.

In the least he could be more popular and putting out good music.

Tbh he did, he brought a lot of artist together who otherwise wouldn't have work together or had been around eachother. A lot of people were cool with him. I think that's how Q and Tyler connected and why Tyler even had a beat on on Oxymoron lol.

Mac was like Alchemest in that way where a lot of people rocked with him.

I don't think anyone expects him to drop a platinum album, or even an album that goes gold in a timely fashion. We're just saying he could have done better but career (and label) decisions hurt him. We live in a social media driven era, he's one of the absolute funniest dudes on the internet yet his pages are dead silent. He was always a dope feature artist yet has been dead silent outside of a couple tracks in the last few years. You can't waste your prime recording hundreds of songs that will never be released. That's not how this industry works anymore unless you're a top tier artist, which he isn't...

Crash Talk had two gold singles which is impressive (Numb Numb Juice and Floating) but overall that shyt didn't do anything they thought it would do. So sure, his time is over...but he could still be doing more than he is, and he could be more successful than he is. He's got the hits and fanbase, the tour+festival success speak for themselves. Why not take advantage of that.
