I go to golds but I also have a planet fitness account just because it was so cheap. But it's like their getting a free 10 dollars a month from me but I'll go whenever I want to see chicks...golds doesn't have a lot of good looking females here.

What's wrong with Planet Fitness? It's the only gym near me so I was thinking about join it.

Long read, but, well, you asked :manny: here's an old "review" of sorts which pretty much sums up PF:

7 Reasons Why Planet Fitness Sucks [Guest Post]
By: FitJerk •August 9, 2011 • 37 Comments
Here are the 7 reasons that place sucks.

1. Lunk Alarm
The thing that sets them apart and the icon of their gym that they are so proud of is the most idiotic idea I’ve ever heard of. Who’s quiet when they go to the gym? Granted, I hate to hear guys gossiping like some little girls at the bar when I’m in the gym, but it’s the place where a man can be a man. Where you can grunt and make your “O Face” in public without shame. I personally try to look as mean as possible and stick my tongue out and grunt all I can. It’s the sign of a passionate lifter. So why alarm me and threaten to throw me out if I’m just being myself? Their philosophy is “a place where everyone can be comfortable”. Well, I’m comfortable grunting.

2. Their Judgment Free Zone
Again, one of their trademarks that makes them stick out like a sore thumb. The whole idea behind the Judgment Free Zone is to cater to women basically [FJ: Actually, more like misinformed women and dimwit weaklings]. There, I said it. Most guys don’t care. We go to the gym to judge each other. Everyone is looking around at everyone else thinking “yeah, I’m bigger than that guy” or “wow, that guy’s arms a huge…what do I have to do to get arms like that” or “that chick is hot”. I personally walk around in compression shirts to look as ripped as possible so I can turn heads. This whole Judgment Free Zone just makes real lifters feel irritated. It’s like when you walk in there, you get the feeling “you’re not wanted here”. Like the old Cheers theme “I wanna be in a place where I belong”. The Judgment Free Zone just isn’t it. It’s meant to create a “relaxing environment”, but I can’t relax without a heavy dumbbell in my hand and wondering if I’m being too loud. I thought this was the gym, not the library.
[FJ: Isn’t it also ironic how the “Judgement Free Zone” judges people who can actually lift some heavy shyt and stand strong? It’s more like the “Judge People Who Are Better Than You” Zone. You know who came up with this idea? A panzy who plateaued at the 25lbs Dumbbell]

3. No Trainers
Most gyms have a hefty staff of personal trainers on hand. This is another money-making avenue, but also a big help for people that need that extra push to get in shape. The Planet Fitness next to my house only has two trainers and when I went in to speak with one, they weren’t in that day. Huh? I’m a very motivated guy and I know my way around the gym. But I know everyone isn’t in my boat. There are a lot of people that need help and are willing to pay for it.
I’m also a savvy marketer, so when there’s supply, I will demand. Planet Fitness is leaving tons of money on the table by neglecting a large part of the market. I know they’re flaunting their $10 price tag (I’ll get to that in a minute) but like the old saying goes, “you get what you pay for”.
[FJ: I have a feeling that the real reason they don’t have trainers is because any respectable trainer will tell them their gym is retardedly ill-equipped and they wouldn’t be caught dead working in a place with a fukking alarm that prevents their clients from doing hard work.]

4. Tanning Rooms
Ok, what is this about? When I saw this, I knew they’d gone totally “health spa” on me and it was really time to leave. Think about it for a second – do you really want to be lifting next to a Snooki from Jersey Shore? What’s that saying about your ‘gymhood’? The tanning salon and the weight room should be in two separate buildings altogether. I’m having trouble understanding how they go together (maybe cause I’m black).
This is a total contradiction to their mantra of “cutting the fat”. They boast about not having salespeople (just a bunch of teenagers at the front desk who have no clue what they’re doing) and no juice bar (I actually use this from time to time when I need a snack or shake), yet they have tanning rooms (which I’ll never use)?? Again, this place is meant for weaklings that have no clue what they are doing.

5. Lack of Free Weights
The first thing you see when you walk in this place is an endless row of cardio equipment. Besides the fact that elliptical machines, treadmills, that weird gazelle looking thing, and bikes are USELESS for building muscle – they are telling you loud and clear what they want you to do when you’re in there. You look around, and there are machines everywhere. Ab machines (useless), Smith machines (almost useless), and on and on. Machines have their place from time to time for a little variety, but if you’re really serious about building a ripped body, free weights are the way to go, hands down! So just by the mere lack of free weights and abundance of machines, they tell you who they’re catering to – WOMEN. C’mon man. Get off the gazelle looking thing and do some hill sprints! [FJ: Specially women!]

6. The Color Purple
Again, the first thing you notice when you walk in is purple and gold everywhere. This place doesn’t look like a normal gym, just by the color scheme. I know purple represents royalty, but I doubt that’s the case here. Frankly, all that purple makes me sick to my stomach. I can’t press hard on some Smith Machine squats (because they took the squat rack away) while looking and a purple “thumbs up” – it just throws my vibe off.

7. The Price
Yeah, I said it. The price. In this case, you get what you pay for. If you’re too lazy to go to a real gym and pay just a little bit more for real results, you deserve to be stuck in “fitness hell” (that’s what this place reminds me of with all the colors and it’s weirdness). Man up, go to a real gym or invest in your own home gym equipment and get ripped. Clearly this place is for overweight women and pansy men. Oh, and by the way, cancelling that $10 is like trying to get rid of an obsessive ex. I’ve had several clients complain that they couldn’t cancel the payment, even after switching bank accounts! That’s what you get when you make a deal with the devil.
So I hope I’ve put this matter to rest. If you’re a guy attending this gym, question your manhood, then switch. If you’re a woman and you love it, great. Although anyone looking to get some real results needs to find another place to get in shape. And just to wrap this up, here’s what happens when a real lifter encounters Planet Fitness.

I walked into the gym and was on my cell phone. I saw the sign in sheets were out. That usually means sign in. I saw that the employees at the time were talking among each other. I began to sign in when I heard someone angrily say, "Excuse me, excuse me." I looked up and held up my finger because I was on an important call. Then once again with a harsh tone in her voice she said, "Excuse me, excuse me, step down here." In the eight months I've been attending this gym in Niles (regularly), I have never been disrespected in that manner. Liz should be an example to her coworkers, especially if she has a business card with her name on it. The worst experience I have ever had at a gym. It's better to workout in the morning, floor cleaner, water bottles not left everywhere, and people are nicer.

The red light enhancement booth - I read about this new enhancement booth. Thought I would try it. Bad choice. This thing vibrates and shakes your whole body. Well now my knee is swollen and I can't walk very well. My back, shoulders, legs, knees all hurt now. I joined this club so I could lose a few pounds before a vacation I planned next October... Now I can't even work out because my knee is swollen...

WARNING!!! Do not join Planet Fitness. If you do be careful. They do not honor their own rules. If you move they will continue to charge you. Then tell you, oh you didn't cancel. Even after two phones I was charged twice. I moved 300 miles. Not driving that far to go to a gym.

I stepped onto a treadmill that was still running. The machine threw me off as I stepped onto it. I took a chunk of skin out of my leg (:mjlol:) by hitting the back end of the treadmill. I ended up with an MRSA infection which was really nasty. I was on 2 different antibiotics for almost 4 weeks before I could get rid of the infection. It was nasty and a large area of my leg was infected and red. When I showed them at Planet Fitness, all they said was that they hoped it gets better soon so I can resume working out! I would definitely not recommend this chain gym.

I was working out for the first time in the 30 minute work out area. I was never explained the rule and an African American female who was working with a client came to me and her exact words were "Get off the machine now." I kept quiet and got up. Then she walked by, covered her mouth and very clearly whispered "stupid white trash." This was a few days ago at the Covina, Ca location. I was shocked by how she ordered me off the machine but the racists remark was uncalled for. She also asked her female client if her breast were real or not. Apparently more training in matters and discrimination might be needed.

So back in Sept 2014 my daughter joined planet fitness. To my surprise it was not an issue that she was days away from 17 and they allowed her to join. But whatever. The facility did not diligently put her banking info into whatever system so she was not billed. She was only there once anyways so just thought okay. Anyways she called to see what was going on since she had not seen a charge. Well they said “Oh sorry we need you to come give us the right info”. She owed 45 bucks. But she wished to cancel. They said it was another 60 bucks. She wanted to the do right thing, pay the fees. I said “No let me handle”, first time tried, no success just run around.
So I called up the next day, asked if I could take over the membership, was told yes. So rushed to get there because the only manager was there till 3pm, I had a meeting but rushed. Do all the paperwork, get the black card membership, pay her past dues. I am asking question “Why don't I have the black card?” Oh it does not matter. Then asked “Okay so I can tan use the hydro etc?” Yes and Yes.... Not even the manager that dealt with me and it was so imperative I be there for her. So I got today and ask if I can get info tour, “Oh we don't do that, it's not enough people to handle”.. There is nobody in there and your butt looks like it needs a walk around anyways but hey lazy young girl... I get told “Go to use the hydro”, get told “Don't have that black card membership”.
I am lost, I know what I signed and what I agreed to. They actually pulled out a contract saying I signed and it was different than what I signed. They actually had the nerve to alter the contract after I signed it. I laughed, they looked at me like I was stupid. Saying “Oh you can change it”. It's not the point. You messed up big time... You altered a contract. I had a copy and had it on my phone and showed her, she couldn't do anything or say anything but make a call. I said it was not the point that I was highly pissed at this point. And it will be fixed by the end of the business day tomorrow (Monday), if not they will actually hear from my lawyer (hubby) but it's the point. You don't do that to people. I do not care if it is for a less amount of greater amount. It's principle.

The current manager, Brett **, was fired for sexually harassing an employee. The company then re-hired him to run the location. I am NOT ok working out at a gym that allows this sort of behavior.

Getting severely frustrated with Planet Fitness on Verdae Blvd Greenville SC. I went in personally on September 5th 2014 to let them know my husband and I were moving out of state and we no longer needed our memberships. We got the "sorry to see you go...if you're ever back in town come back and see us" scenario. Thought nothing else of it, until I checked my bank account and they had withdrawn the 19.99 x2 on September 17th. I have spent best part of today going round and round with them that we did as required, inform them before the 10th of the month to ensure the recurring fee would not be withdrawn on the 17th. Being in Montana, it is completely inconvenient for me to handle this in person and to try to resolve it by phone is utterly exasperating, as the guy I keep getting on the line is so condescending and talks right through me!
The alternatives he has given me, are to either go in person to cancel...which I have already done. Transfer my membership to a location nearest me...of which there are none in Montana. Send a certified letter of cancellation to the SC branch before the 10th of the month to avoid being charged on the 17th...well surprise today is the 10th!! ! He asked if I filled out a cancellation form when I was there on September 5th and I informed him that no-one gave me anything to sign, all the staff did was take the membership cards I handed them and wished us well. How can I resolve this issue and prevent any further charges and claim the charges they took on September 17th that they had no right to take. It's just short of theft in my book.
Just a foot note, my husband and I have not used Planet Fitness since my Cancer diagnosis over a year ago, so I would think they have made more than enough profit from us, that's all the more reason that I feel disgusted about them continuing to take money from my account after being told IN PERSON to stop. So much for their Black Card NO COMMITMENT slogan. I'm sickened that they have no further permission to put their hands in my account or I will press theft charges on them.

Planet Fitness on Schllinger Mobile, AL - TOTAL RIPOFF! They bill you two months in advance for the next year's fees, which you HAVE to pay even if you already told them you want OUT! But if you try to quit early, to AVOID the next year's fees, they charge you $58 to quit, so you're screwed either way. Their equipment is old, outdated, dirty, and stinks! No hot water, pathetic shower heads, no water pressure, never any toilet paper or paper towels, bathrooms stink, and the whole place is infested with disease. Don't believe any of those good reviews - all written by employees and their friends. The place sucks and they know it. That's why they have to screw you for extra money.

I have had a membership for 4 years, used it for the 1st two years have not been able to use it because of medical reasons. I went with an EMT for the first time on Friday. During the first years that I used the membership I was always able to bring a guest. This time they wanted to charge $20. I told them I was not paying that because he was there to help me because of my health issues and I paid for 2 years and didn't even use the gym! He was also seeing if he wanted to join.
The VERY young, NASTY "General Manager" argued with me and didn't care about the health issues nor that he was a possible new member. After stating I have not even used the membership (not knowing I should have cancelled a long time ago with a doctor's note) and her telling me that I was unable to talk to the person above her, she then started filling out my cancellation form. I called the corporate office and they sent an email to the owners, managers, etc. NO ONE EVEN CALLED!! Very unprofessional!!!

If you are trying to get a job and you are black and a woman beware and good luck trying to get hired on with Planet Fitness. I went in Planet Fitness for a interview last Wednesday. I stood at the front desk for 5 minutes till a employee notice me. During the whole interview the Manager stared at my chest, while I stayed positive and eager about the job but uncomfortable about him undressing me the whole time. I thought the interview went pretty good. I even offered to fold clean towels that were laying in a clear bag behind the front desk. He even was trying to check me out from the back as I was leaving. I laughed it off. I never received a call back, so I called Tuesday of this week. The employee who answered the phone was rude and informed me the position has been filled. I'm not a hater because I didn't get hired on. I just feel a little violated and discriminated. Still looking for a job. Maybe this was God's way of saying I'm more worthy to work for Planet Fitness. I'm a strong black single mother with a lot potential to offer. Thanks. Beware black woman.

Yeah in my experience. I've been to like 8 different bases and they are usually state of the art with new equipment, more rooms, and more space. Robins use to have a bigger operation like 5 years ago so it's crazy that Active Duty ppl had to squeeze in that gym.
