Nier Automata is probably the worst game i purchased day one in my life.
Was completely broken on PC. Had to download a mod just to make it work, then the game itself was just barely OK.
Wouldn’t recommend that to anyone

This kind of left field, but to be honest with so many games coming out consistently.
I dissuade people from buying games on release at full price unless you are going to sit down and play that same week.
I have a backlog of games from late last year that I paid 60 or more for that are all now 15-25 bucks or on gamepass.
Nintendo games are kind of a different story as they usually don't drop below half price at best but for everything else if you ain't playing it on release or you aren't trying to show support just wait
