The 1992 Dream Team was in a different time. Low-tier teams got demolished on the court and their players asked Team USA for autographs afterwards. You can't replicate it or try to surpass. You just focus on 2012 and try to win gold.

See the difference is the name recognition on that team vs this one. This team would be the equivalent of the Dream team if Timmy, KG, Dwight, J Kidd, Kobe, Lebron, KD, CP3, Wade, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Derrick Rose all played. Where the names of the players was more important if they could still play.

Why do people always cling to the "the competition is better now" life boat? If you watch these games, this teams issues have absolutely nothing to do with the other team. They can't consistently knock down an open J or rebound. It's not like these teams have a Westbrook type athlete the USA "now has to deal with unlike the Dream Team". Luis Scola isn't an impact player no matter what era you put him in. Yet he anchored a team that outscored the USA 64-55 over the last three qtrs. That's not the "world catching up to us". That's simply, "this team can't consistently hit jumpshots or rebound and get 2nd chance points". This Olympics comes down to "we have KD and kobe, and you don't".
