I remember Paul Kuharsky of ESPN used a lot of coded language like that on Cam before the draft and he still does. Kuharsky didn't think Cam would be drafted number one and would drop down to the Titans spot. He kept talking about Cam is another Vince Young and the Titans don't need that again. People must respect his biased opinion because now he votes for the HOF. Nothing Cam does will make certain people respect his intelligence or talent. Rob Chudzinski got the credit for Newton's success and a head coaching job now Mike Shula gets all the credit for any success Cam has.

I don't think the coli is sophisticated enough to realize that some phrases themselves might not be racist or bigoted, but improper application of it may be. This is a prime example.
But when its being applied specifically to the quarterback position its impossible to ignore the racial implications.

Steve Young is always talking about the "calculus" that QBs have to be able to understand and how learning the position is like "earning a master's degree". It all sounds like bullshyt to me. Like how job descriptions try make office work sound like rocket science instead of "sit in front of a computer alll day and do what people ask you to do"...

I agree with you also a lot of the coded language is a way to cover their butts about being wrong about Cam. They can say "What I said about Cam not being an NFL Quarterback coming out of college was right then but now he has matured and learned the playbook. Mike Shula calmed him down and got him to focus on football." Anytime Cam has a bad game it means the league caught up to him and has enough film to figure him out. Even after his car accident people had no sympathy and made it seem like missing a game was him being lazy and not tough. The accident wasn't his fault but it still somehow fell into the immaturity category. Most of the people complaining would miss a month of work or more after a car accident.
