In a post Jordan era the league needed stars

Hip Hop was taking over pop culture you had a guy like AI & on the opposite end of the spectrum you had “The White Boy”

He sold tickets
He sold merchandise
He made people watch
"they" didn't need just a star, "they" desperately needed the NBA version of Eminem who came out the same time as Jason Williams. they needed a white boy to do things we don't usually see white boys do.

I thought Bobby Jackson was better than him, let alone Mike Bibby who took the Kings to another level when he replaced Jason.

Saw one of his highlights on sports center had league pass didn’t think twice to start catching their games was hooked ever since:mjcry:

Those Bibby teams turned into winners, JWill was too reckless and entertaining to lead that squad at his age. I hated the Bibby trade at first but who can get mad at your team going from mid tier to a title threat overnight ? :yeshrug:

Bibby is 2.5 years younger than JWill. Goes to show age of a player is not a factor in determining offensive/defensive awareness.

It’s true Bibby won one in college too he was a pure leader. He blended in seamlessly his first season.

Glad to see JWill turn into a steady vet and get a ship with Miami

I don’t know about all that. He came how he came. The timelines of his & Eminem’s timelines are parallel but that’s about it. We never saw a white boy like that. The NBA didn’t ask for Jason no differently than they damn sure didn’t ask for AI. Word traveled fast then everybody wanted the white kid from Sac go crazy. That’s really it

He was box-office...:yeshrug:

I always felt, as good as he was, and even wit the love, he was still underappreciated in the moment. Hoopers were in the know, especially with AND1 simultaneously poppin at the time.

He didn't get that PUSH-PUSH he would've gotten in todays social media climate tho. Always a lot of low-key hate, and strays comin from cac commentators too at the time. I remember, they were prayin for his downfall, and ridin the shyt out of a more conservative Mike Bibbys game, once he came around...:mjpls:

That flashy shyt was only gettin so much of a push. Lets be clear tho when I say this...J-Will was a BADDDD white boy on the court, in his rookie years. Swag on a 100. Too many traditionalists, got in his head, and eventually got him to neuter, and waterdown his game...:unimpressed:

Couldnt have been that bad. The talent was always there, once he calmed it down. He was a valuable cog, on a title team. What type of "poor decisions" did you make, that didnt lead you to an NBA career, let along a ring? :mjlol:

Jason Williams' decision making was so bad that they literally would bench him in the 4th quarter and close with Bobby Jackson.

As exciting as he was, you weren't winning shyt with him.

He was fun to watch as a Kings fan in the beginning for he brought a lot of attention to the team in a good way finally.

However, his decision making during crunch time was :trash: Think about it, the Kings only needed a steady PG and the team went a 180 when Bibby arrived.

I remember leaving Arco Arena hearing cacs rant about his "hot doggin" like we didn't win the game by 20 :gucci:. The more "ooh ahh" plays he brought, the ones that made you scratch your head also followed.

Again, I'm happy for him putting Sac into the spotlight but he was never a player you could count on when it really mattered .

He actually wasn’t a bad shooter his form was similar to Jimmer Fredette’s and he had range.

His %’s are misleading because of his terrible shot selection and the way he was bombing threes.

You are correct. Typically if his feet were set and he was composed he was a much better shooter compared to the dancing pull ups or full speed pull ups that he became synonymous with
