Sick player. Was never in the top tier of PGs, but was a very entertaining and solid option.
Saw lanes and played at a pace that caught defenders off-guard. Incredible vision that few PGs possess. Wasted away on garbage Grizzlies teams.
Some of the best bounce passes the game has seen. Probably the best "drop" passer I've ever seen. Could finish breaks in a variety of ways.

Had obvious limitations. Couldn't shoot like guys like Nash and Hardaway. Wasn't a natural scorer like Van Exel and Rose. Wasn't a gawd general like Kidd, but who really was at that time...

Baron Davis is clearly a tier or two ahead of a guy like Jason Williams.

He's boys with Randy Moss.

He was one of the first guys I saw that had the ability to suddenly change height, angle, and handedness of the pass at the last second. In game. Rondo has a lot of this in his game as well.

I feel like Ricky Rubio is very much the offspring of Jason Williams although much less exciting. Rubio also isn't in the top tier of PGs.

It's very difficult to be a top 10 PG as a pass first player if you don't have elite athleticism or a respectable jumpshot. Both of them slowly improved as shooters as their career went on. JW had his foot halfway out of the door by the time he became an above average shooter

Agree with the bolded 100%

I see what you're saying about Rubio. Although I'd argue Ricky didn't have nearly the game sense Jason had, imo. He had small moments of brilliance, but he wasn't quite up to speed the way JWill was. I felt like JWill as your starting PG was serviceable. Above average on some nights. Never been a fan of Rubio, personally.

I always thought Rondo was a little more refined and contained version of JWill. By the time Rondo came in, the game had sped up and guys were more on the lookout for those types of passes that JWill use to get away with easily in the late 90s/early 2000s.

I feel the opposite. I think Rubio had a lot better game management and understanding of spacing than Jason does. He literally just has no confidence in his own scoring abilities, and while Jason couldn't really shoot he didn't lack confidence in his offense to that level (if anything, he had too much confidence). Rubio has better vision and is a better passer than Jason, he's just not as exciting or flashy.

Saw one of his highlights on sports center had league pass didn’t think twice to start catching their games was hooked ever since:mjcry:

Those Bibby teams turned into winners, JWill was too reckless and entertaining to lead that squad at his age. I hated the Bibby trade at first but who can get mad at your team going from mid tier to a title threat overnight ? :yeshrug:

Like an untamed horse until :hubie: got a hold of him and had him leading the league in assist/turnover ratio. His passing ability was incredible. Not only could he make spectacular passes, he could put the ball right where it needed to be for the shooter/finisher. But that ability also made him overdo it with the fancy passes and it became predictable.

VERY streaky shooter. Would get hot from time to time and he would be taking Steph-like shots on the regular.

Didn't reach his full potential, imo.

Williams probably would have been better if he got a chance to learn under a good point guard and not thrown to the fire with the Kings. Not to mention he didn't play much at Florida either and more college experience would have helped him as well.

That whole kings team was awesome to watch. Webber, Hedo, Peja, Williams

:unimpressed: And yes the refs rescued the fukk out the lakers in game 7
Jason Williams had nothing to do with that, tho. In fact, the guy he was traded for ( Mike Bibby ) was SAC best player that series. If Jason Williams was still on the team it's probably Lakers in 5. Good offensive player but too turnover prone for my liking & zero defense

people forget how careless he was with the ball. Highlight reels never show consistent lowlights
