That female boxer, Rijker is Surinamese, right?

Just a visual joke to counter you saying that Surinam retained the most African heritage...picture of LR with Donald "shythole " Trump.
i had to google her. apparently shes mixed from the Netherlands....
....

.....

anyway Suriname has a very large diverse Maroon population that has been separate from outside influence for generations, go look it up
the creole languages spoken in Suriname have the least European influence

Thanks. wow, I knew that she was Black and spoke Dutch and assumed that she was Surinamese all these years.

I'm somewhat familiar with that aspect of your culture.........just saw an opening for a joke. I've seen your flag and met some people from there. We bond on being the rare non English/Spanish speaking countries in caribbean/latin america.

Probably Haiti, Cuba and Venezuela but African cultures vary too, tho.

My african friends have thought me how to distinguish the various african music to determine where they are from by just listening to the style. But yeah, even my african friends who have been to Haiti tell me they feel like Haiti is sooo African. WHereas us Haitians dont quite view ourselves as Africans like they do.
+ When you factor in Haitian Racine Music....it's a wrap :blessed:

Overall Haiti....Due to the enslaved Africans being worked to death LITERALLY, there were always ships bringing in more Africans. Was THE richest slave colony because of this complete disregard for human life by the French
This

What some people always fail to understand is that most slaves brought to the island barely survived an average of 7 years due to being overworked to death. Just as the actual natives/indigenous people got completely wiped out. And i mean COMPLETELY. The colonists could afford to mistreat or even kill slaves by the hundreds because they would always get fresh ones to replace them. A slave had no value to them because those were rich nobles that owned the lands. Whereas in North America many regular middle class families owned slaves and could only afford so many to the point some may even have had insurance on their slaves in the U.S.

How come no one is talking about Africans in Europe? :patrice:

I mean they actually know which country they're from, a lot speak african language(s), travel to the continent, eat the continent's food, listen to the continent's music, follow the continent's politics etc...:jbhmm:

I think this thread was meant for black diaspora who were displaced due to slavery. Not necessarily Africans who migrated to other countries.

I could be wrong, tho.

Could be, but "diaspora" technically means anyone from african descent outside of the continent :yeshrug:
But yeah if the thread is meant for diaspora in the Americas, never mind me :hubie:

i think the "retention" part is what signals this means the slave diaspora.

if someone or their parents were born in africa, people would be surprised if that individual had no african culture.
