With due respect to other places, how are y'all mentioning slang that doesn't travel or become national? Slang that remains local or regional can't be GOAT.

For example, "you hear me?" is some DC shyt and has been for decades.Never heard this phrase really used like that outside of people from DC

"You heard me?" out of the South, blew up because of No Limit out of NOLA....NYers copied and shortened it to "you heard?" When Jay Elctronica rapped about "ny calling souther rappers lame...while jacking our slang"..think he's talking in general but this was a clear example.

Popular national figures from a certain area help popularize slang and help it spread to other areas.

People don't recognize the Bay area slang because rappers from other regions jack it and put it on record and people don't associate it with Oakland. There isn't and hasn't been a superstar figure out of the Bay area for decades, otherwise it would be more clear how much national slang comes out of there.

You're right. Chicago and the Bay about the only two areas that resisted the B/C movement. But I was talking more so the slang which the L.A. gangbanging culture brought to other areas.

When’d you come to dc? Other posters from the area have co-signed it. In the 90’s to early 2000’s was mainly Joe. Then sometime around mid 2000’s the youngins my age started running with Moe and that’s what then became popular over the last 13 years or so.

Pg county is like 10 minutes away from DC (shyt some parts are the literal border). From dc up to moco and down to the tip of nova we all talk, dress, etc the same everything. It’s just easier to say DC because that’s what the general public knows.
