My pops told me mostly bullshyt, and i learned early on his "advice" was the usually the opposite of what i should do. My Uncles and older cousins gave me good game tho.

Nowhere near as bad as the Southern USA, but yes there was alot more racism back then. French-Canadians are way more racist than the English ones. Even now, alot of them don't like non-white and non-French speaking people.

French Canadians are alot more overt with their bigotry than English Canadians. Being surrounded by English Canada and the USA along with immigration has alot of them feeling like their language and culture is under threat.

There have been some public blackface incidents in recent years. Alot of people here see nothing wrong with wearing shoe polish and afro wigs.

The current government, which wants Quebec to be it's own country, was recently proposing a new "Charter of Values" banning public sector workers from wearing religious symbols. After they were voted in, there were a few physical attacks on English speakers and non-whites from Quebec separatists who feel they are being invaded.

You can still move here though, it's still a very safe city even by Canadian standards, but there are some areas where people don't like immigrants and English speakers and don't mind making their feelings known.

1. Pay yourself first
2. eliminate all stress points from your life. if something (or someone) is causing you grief, get rid of it/them. live as stress free and peaceful as possible.
3. never wait more than 20 minutes for a table at a restaurant. if you do, you will wait double that time for your food. (he is DEAD ON with this )
4. keep a bank account that your wife doesn't know about. eventually you will need money that she thinks that ya'll don't have and when you mysteriously come up with it, you will look like THE MAN in her eyes (he is DEAD ON with this too )
5. create memories with your family so that they have something to reflect on in the future.
6. be someone that your kids can look up to, not just someone that tell them what to do. demonstrate qualities that you would like for your kids to emulate.
7. kiss, hug, and tell your family that you love them. you never know when it will be your last time.

i have a TON of others. man. my dad. i love that man to death, brehs....real spit. the most solid dude i know by FAAAAR.....

Yea, I used to reject advice from my parents because I felt like we grew up in different situations and had different life philosophies. But I calmed down on that as I got older.
