Goku is a fairly decent comparison as @Renkz pointed out but he takes way more Ls than Goku ever does. Ichigo evolves during tough fights and he's got... other things at play that you'll find out about soon considering where you are.

It's primarily the shonen formula at work though, guy is overcoming due to innate talent and sheer will power.

Mugen is half-samurai, half-Eddie Gordo from Tekken when he scraps. I stan Samurai Champloo fam. It's from the Cowboy Bebop creator, but where Bebop used Jazz music to set a mood, this one used hip hop via Nujabes. I haven't watched in a while but I'm pretty sure the action will still hold up. It's got a bit of the Bebop hijinks and style in a feudal Japan setting.

And yeah, it's worth the watch. It's prolly the first anime to lean so heavy on hip hop influences, now that I think about it.
