Does Takemichi ever learn to fight?

I'm on episode 8 and it seems that all seems to happen is that there's a big escalation. Takemichi gets his as kicked, there's a big speech, something happens (Mikey beats them up or somebody gets stabbed or something), Michi goes back to present day, something changes, something else happens. Then he goes back again

Nah. He doesn't learn how to fight.....he's a crybaby hero. He might punch someone sporadically but that's about it. He eats punches for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I think the author doesnt want the series to end for the way the story is draggin out.

If you watched the series, you'd see that he does get some wins. It's just that the ass whuppings stand out more. Its easy to make fun of and its fukkery. Seeing how he's able to get outta crazy situations without being a good fighter is the appeal.

Most cats in real life that can't fight, never show half the heart dude does in those situations.
