When it comes to the topic of fake deep, a lot of brehs give the show Ergo Proxy that title. At times I could agree with them (like the ending) but overall I feel like there is plenty of depth in several episodes. I can rewatch my favorite episodes without caring too much of the bigger picture and always enjoy them and the concepts they implement.
Now I have a show I can call out for being fake deep and tryhard. I'm might get flack for this but fukk it. I'm going to leave the low hanging fruit angels egg alone and call out a higher rated show in Paranoia agent
Now this may seem like an odd pick at first but here me out here.
I think the person behind this Satoshi Kon is still one of the best in the anime industry and I'm a Perfect Blue
stan but I still think Paranoia Agent has a lot of problems.
It does have some good things about it. The OP for it is genius
Its creative and creepy and makes sense in the context of the show. The show has a unique idea for a mystery of everyone getting hit by a bat and nobody knowing who it was. The show starts of really strong with the first couple of episodes and they can be fun to analyze, which is probably why so many anime youtubers hype this show
The problem with this show is that it ran out of steam. It feels like the first couple episodes are complete, and then after that everything else was an afterthought. I thought the videogame world part was funny due to the sheer randomness and bait&switch nature of it, but after that point, the show never returned to its true self.
It felt like they wanted to continually jump the shark every episode and every episode started to feel like a whole lotta
Because they wanted people think its deep but said what they wanted to say already. They even randomly introduced a whole crew of new characters to follow around just to make a message. The show started to feel like a show loosely inspired by paranoia agent rather than paranoia agent itself.
Anyone else seen this show here?
