Original has a cult fanbase that'll tell you it's one of the greatest coming of age stories in anime. I'm a part of that.
But....it's also the epitome of "weird anime" and is full of experimental visuals, pop culture reference, abstract symbolism that might take away from your understanding of the core narrative and central themes of FLCL (It does have them). Not for everybody, but I think everybody should experience it once.

The FLCL stan in me disagrees. hard. There's a lot to pull from Naota and Mamimi's charfacter arcs, and FLCL does have themes.
But, 100% get why someone wouldn't like it. Would think its stupid. As it does *look* stupid and has scenes that have no purpose other than being fun to look at.
