Brehs, I got to see On-Gaku: Our Sound in theaters today and this shyt is anime of the goddamn decade. :ohlawd:

It's a hilariously droll story of a delinquent high schooler who decides to start a band with his friends who all know nothing about music. One moment you're watching ten seconds of a sloppily drawn dude pausing before saying something stupid, yet at the same time it also contains scenes so vividly animated it feels like early Masaaki Yuasa.

Absolutely brilliant film that will be ignored by most people, but if you want to experience free-form anime at its finest, this is it!

Watching this now and it's great. Does remind of Yuasa's style. Designs seem offputting at first, but then you see them move freely while the backgrounds shift in unpredictable ways and you sit back in awe.

It's really funny. Running through all of these band club tropes not caring to spend more than five seconds on any topic.

"What's our name?"

"Idk"

"Kobijitsu"

"Okay" :mjlol:

Yeah, the animation is low-key impressive because I went into the film almost blind, knowing only that it was a crowd funded project made by a small group so I figured the "main style" of the animation was it. But as the film progresses it does more and more insane things with animation that's really next level.

And the way they work through the band tropes had me dying as well. Kenji gives zero fukks throughout the entire film and it's brilliant. :deadrose:

don't know about the creators but I hope they're able to parlay the success of this into more works. Really enjoyed it

Glad you enjoyed it. That whole "confrontation" with the Mohawk guy was hilarious. :mjlol:

This is definitely the kind of work that's gonna make the director's career if he picks a strong follow up film.
