chihayafuru is great so far. always fun to watch a character obsessively work towards achieving a goal in life. even if that goal contradicts what people expect of them by appearance.

i think it's a little mischaracterized as a romance anime. the love triangle is part of the appeal, sure. but it's more so about forming relationships through a shared passion, finding life purpose from that passion and dealing with irl conflicts that can interrupt that passion in unpredictable ways. A lot of good sports anime get the first two right. Not many the third.

very similar to Ippo, haikyuu, rakugo, can make you appreciate the sport/performance itself even if you don't know nothing about it going in. chihaya's love for karuta is so genuine that makes me want to look up matches and read some of the poems that the cards are made from.

Guy at work has been trying to get me to watch that damn Hero is Overpowered but Overly Cautious, so I watched the first four episodes of that. It's ok, a little formulaic. Not a big fan of the art style either.

I will say tho, that theme song is fukking :fire:.

WE ARE SHOUTING AW YEAH AW YEAH AW YEAH! FOR THE GLORY AW YEAH AW YEAH AW YEAH! :dj2:

There's something about the way the show is handled.... I can't put a finger on it. The art, music, pacing.... it's hard to describe. The show is flat out perfect for what it's about? Like you know it's not gonna appeal to everybody, but they wanted to make the show perfect for what it is. and they succeeded.

I said earlier that it's like Akagi or Saki, where it takes something you have absolutely no knowledge of (actual mahjongg for the mentioned anime, karuta here) , but the passion the characters put into the game makes you want to learn it.
