I think it can lag if you just don't sympathize much with Rei/the sisters or the sport of Shogi - this was a slight issue for me and I'm guessing this is part of your issue as well. By the second season Rei has realized his value and there's more focus on developing the issues of the side characters. I think it's realistic to experiences in modern Japan. Maybe not the U.S.
Yea I think this was it exactly, and great point with the visualize of Dark/gloomy vs. bright/colorful when hes with the sisters (Momo is adorable btw). I feel an issue I had was I wanted to sympathize with Rei more but I couldn't as I felt even in the info they provided, I still felt there was a lot of info about his upbringing which lead him to be who he was left out or not gone into detail of. I knew his parents death in the car accident affected him greatly, however his adopted father loved him ( I know his sister hated him which I also feel their relationship is extremely odd, it seems she had sexual feelings for him & that he keeps letting her just coming into his life/apartment even though she's a terrible person) & his shogi friends seems to like him too, and since hes been playing that for a while, I assume hes known them for a while.

I also wish they used the sisters more than a shining light for Rei + food as there seems to be great development and material that could be gotten out of them (Their lives/depression).Like you said as well, the shogi portion don't really have much interest in and it seemed like 10-15 episodes were geared specifically for the sport itself more than actual story, episodes seem to drag because of it.

I will be checking out s2

This is fair criticism of S1. There's still a lot that isn't revealed about his sister and the Kawamotos by then that does get fleshed out in S2. I tend to group them together because I watched it all at once. but 44 episodes is a lot get through just to get a full story.

There's a major arc in S2 that focuses on Hina...it's powerful. Makes you want to jump into the screen and help the kid as if she were a real person. The benefit of spending the better part of 22 episodes to build Rei's confidence is he can spend the next 22 helping others in their lives; he turns into superman for that kid.

The shogi kinda grows on me once it carries purpose in S2. Rei starts to believe in his talent, accept the challenge of being the best in Japan and use his winnings to help people around him. I can get behind a sport I don't give a fukk about if the players are passionate about it

but the more I talk about Sangatsu the more I realize that this anime isn't all that easy to get into...Natsume Yuujinchou has a similar premise and relies a lot on endearing the characters to the viewers, but there's also demons and supernatural elements. Kids on the Slope has great musical performance in addition to the character melodrama. In Sangatsu...it's the unique art direction and shogi, which isn't really interesting until S2, so I can get why it's not as popular as those two and other more diverse dramas.

Yea I think s2 will flesh out and answer alot of questions I had so I'm really looking forward to it. I see its rated higher on MAL (2nd season), this show even tho they are completely different subjects reminds me of silver spoon in that its such a uniquely written storyline/subject from the norm that it can be difficult for a lot to not fully get into but if you do its great stuff

Blazed through GioGio from Sunday night until now.

Question about Bucciarati
Did he die but boss erased his death with the time skip?

Or was his healing from GIOGIO simultaneous with a time skip of boss killing Bucciarati?

I'm leaning towards the latter.

Can anyone recommend a good romance to me? I've been itching to watch one. Love & War is one of the more recent ones I've seen and really enjoyed.

I'm cool with anything as long as the romance is good. The bolded I've already completed and the italicized I've watched partly. I really enjoyed I want to eat your pancreas. I think I'ma give recovery of a mmo junky a try.
