Random observations of Ippo up to episode 20

Takamura is a goddamn monster. Looking forward to when Ippo fights him assuming he gets to that weight class at some point. Also looking forward to seeing Ippo lose a match and how he handles that. I know its coming with the way he's having to improve himself so much on the fly like this

I like how all the boxers are fleshed out with different styles and motivations and after each fight you get their emotional post match reaction. That's what Haikyuu did really well, made it hard to really pick a side in matches because you knew what they were all fighting for and how hard they worked to get there. I hope they're reoccurring characters

Ippo's mom is great. She didn't try to stop her son from becoming a boxer because its just what he wanted to do. There was never a point where Ippo even had to tell her he was boxing, she already knew, and she gave a perfect reason for not wanting to go see his fights because she doesn't want to see her son get destroyed. A rare good parent in anime

Apparent that the creator of Ippo actually knows his shyt and is a big fan of the history of the sport with the homages to Tyson and Hearns. Takamura starving himself the night before a match and having trouble getting up the steps post fight. Nothing seems all that unrealistic except for the weigh ins. No way in hell Ippo is 125 lbs while I'm sitting here at 158 lbs

LOL @ there being a better sports anime than this

There is no better.

Best character development,

Best fight build ups

Best fight pacing

Best fight action/realistic fallout.

I don't care. That above combination will shyt on ANY other action anime.

There's only two anime I've legit jumped up out of my seat and cheered for, totally caught in the heat of the moment.

Ippo is one of them. :wow:

Gonna check out Ippo and Kakeigurui off the strength of this thread. Currently I'm binge watching Hunter x Hunter for the first time. I'm on episode 24 where they're at Killua's crib trying to bring him back. Series seems okay so far, waiting for it to pick up a little.

do it.

it doesnt matter which season you start from.

It doesn't even matter if you start reading the manga from where it released last week,

Causeyoure gonna even see fights featuring the "bad guys" vs other people

and people are gonna win, people are gonna lose.

You'll never be spoiled unless you look for the win loss records, but you'll ALWAYS be entertained.

I want to give a shout out to Kakegurui for its delicious opening That jazzy goodness :banderas: and those female gambling addicts :shaq:

It looks a lot like CLAMP's "XxxHolic" manga series, if you're familiar with the work.

For those that don't know, it's not anything even remotely related to porn. It was a manga/anime about "addictions". The "Xxx" stands for whatever a person's addicted to. AttentionHolic, CuteGirlHolic, etc. etc....

Which is fitting, because the main theme of this show is Gambling Addiction.
