In no order:

1. Ella Fitzgerald
2. Stevie Wonder
3. Aretha Franklin
4. James Brown
5. Micheal Jackson
6. Tupac( can’t ignore Rap)
7. Chuck Berry
8. Duke Ellington
9. Nina Simone
10. Ray Charles

It’s mainly in regards to their influence rather than personal taste. For instance, Aretha’s the most influential singer of the last 60 years.

Great list

you need classic Jazz there

so Miles Davis or John Coltrane instead of Ella Fitzgerald

Duke Ellington can represent early Jazz by himself

Above the fray.
"Music knows it is and always will
Be one of the things that life just won't quit
But here are some of music's pioneers
That time will not allow us to forget
For there's Basie, Miller, Satchmo
And the king of all Sir Duke
And with a voice like Ella's ringing out
There's no way the band can lose"
