What’s your reasoning?
:patrice:
As I stated above, LL was the first rapper/emcee to flip from commercial radio artist to underground street battle rap and make it work and believable.

Every hip hop artist after has followed suit - even biggie and pac

Hip hop is the top genre across the globe but nobody lists RUNDMC?

Run DMC were pioneers but I don’t think artists were really trying to copy them like that...even after that collab w Aerosmith, rappers weren’t trying to do rap/rock songs

Above the fray.

if you think other artists did not try to copy RunDMC

go look up the pioneering groups in other cities and regions of the country

look at what they wore

=======
look at the two rappers/ one dj combo that they made popular and count how many groups followed suit

Yeah, but they mainstreamed hip hop in a way that no artist did before them

True but musically they didn’t really change the game or push the genre forward

if you think other artists did not try to copy RunDMC

go look up the pioneering groups in other cities and regions of the country

look at what they wore

No doubt but I’m talking musically

Ok Let me give you the template on how to answer this thread ... and also show you why everyone was wrong so far, now that I thought about it.

You have to name ten black genres of music created in the 20th century and select the best representation of each genre.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

1. Blues
2. Country
3. Big Band
4. Early Jazz
5. Classic Jazz
6. Rhythm and Blues
7. Rock and Roll / Rock
8. Funk

And while you may not think that they are very important they are highly appreciated and influential.

9. Rap and 10. Reggae

both changed generations of people so some representation would be nice.

Edit

And also that’s not covering House, Ska, Bluegrass, Disco, Electronic influences etc. etc.
