Not gonna say everyone and their mother needs a gimmick to be interesting, but a little bit of personality or consistent characterization can honestly go a long way.

I'm of the opinion that wrestling is at its best when it DOESN'T take itself too seriously like an actual sport. The athleticism is nice, and a competitive atmosphere is always welcome, but your average Joe ain't wondering how great of a wrestler Seth Rollins is or the amount of workrate he's accumulated.

Yeah high stakes matches shouldn’t always revolve around a championship, that’s one reason why the men’s and especially the women’s divisions lack intrigue. We need more characters, doesn’t mean we should have more goofy shyt damn give the wrestlers a backstory instead of just saying “they’re athletic” or “they’re the hottest free agent”.

He’s right but it’s part the of the reason wrestling isn’t what it used to be.

There’s few unique characters in today’s WWE.

They all look the same and act the same. They read from scripts like actors instead of being able to improvise. The Fiend was the best character idea they had in years and killed his momentum for 89 year old Goldberg.

The Fiend is the exception and not the rule and Taker is a product of a time where there were more characters and gimmicks.

The in ring action is less reality based imo matches make no sense. They call it a finisher but you have to do it 4 times lmao.

Kicking out of a Canadian Destroyer but a running knee does the job. Or kicking out of a superplex/Falcon Arrow combination but being pinned after “The Stomp”

Although the wrestlers are clearly more athletic the matches are not better then 80s 90s early to mid 2000s imo not even close because of this fact.
