as a giants fan, that NFC champ game was the most grueling, amazing game to watch. your guys' D is best in the league. if i could choose one player to add to my team out of everyone, it'd be willis no doubt. i was fatigued just watching that game from the couch. classic play-off match up.

we won the game but id be lyin if i said i loved how that game ended. that fumbled punt was a huge gift. with how much of a dog fight that game was, to see it end with that was kinda flukey.

on the side tho, i must say that alex smith is about as average as it gets. if he was any better, u guys woulda had that game. but smith sucks.

all that said, i never wanna play u guys again when the season is on the line. much respect to your franchise. and harbaugh should be great for years in SF.

Aldon is starting to hover into some bad territory.

The DWI shyt is unacceptable, the stabbing you can't put on him but seems to be only bad news surrounding him lately. Someone needs to pull him to the side and tell em lay low

San Francisco 49ers – Niner Insider Blog – SFGate.com » Issues surrounding Aldon Smith’s stabbing

Interesting article on Aldon Smith.

Outside linebacker Aldon Smith’s stabbing at a house in San Jose early Sunday morning brings up a few points:

First, is this a classic cry for help, particularly considering his arrest for a DUI on Jan. 27 in Miami?

On Sunday morning, Smith and his raucous, alcohol-infused party was the subject of a 911 call at 2:14 a.m. Police discovered Smith and another party goer had been stabbed along with a person who had been shot at the party. All were not critically injured.

Smith hardly has the reputation as a trouble maker. He played the drums in the church choir growing up; and he expressed a desire to work for the Drug Enforcement Agency after football. He also has a strong set of parents, even though they divorced when Smith was a teenager.

His father, Thurston Smith – an information tech – forced Aldon to maintain a 3.0 in order to play high school sports in the community of Raytown, just outside of Kansas City. Thurston said Aldon rebelled at times but he got the grades necessary to excel at basketball and football. Meanwhile, his coaches liked him.

His AAU basketball coach Matt Suther said,. “He has a really good heart. I think (with the 49ers) he’s going to be a great asset to the community. Those are the kinds of things I expect him to be involved in.”

Smith appears to be a good person and a well-liked teammate. However, maybe the burden of being away from home and being an gifted, handsome, muscular, young, single millionaire, who experienced instant success, is weighing on him. If it is, he has a host of people to lean on, including his parents, teammates, and team associates including chaplain Earl Smith. DUI’s and stabbings are not trifles and you hope Smith can mature so he’s not a danger to himself and others.

Secondly, Smith’s off-season troubles could possibly deter the team from its Super Bowl. mission. Head coach Jim Harbaugh’s last statement to the team was for them to take things such as trips to the dentist and the DMV, so there are no distractions during training camp. Harbaugh probably didn’t mention to avoid stabbings. Nevertheless, the stakes are high for the team this season and Smith is an essential part of the 49ers’ elite defense. He needs to get himself together or his teammates and coaches will feel that he let them down.

Lastly, Smith’s stabbing adds to the mistaken impression that the NFL is a league of entitled criminals who can’t control the violence they perpetrate on the field. That’s simply not true. According to an extensive study by the San Diego Union Tribune, NFL players are arrested at a far lower rate than the general population, including DUI citations. Two percent of the general population gets arrested for DUI, however from 2000 to 2007 one in 144 NFL players were arrested, well below one percent.
Also, the arrest rate for the general population is one in 22, while in the extensive review of NFL player arrests from 2000 to 2007, one in 45 was arrested.

Anyone think the 49ers are keeping Larry Grant around because Bowman might be too expensive to keep?

I mean I hope to God we can keep Bowman, but he's gonna be costly. Larry Grant looked great stepping in, maybe he's an insurance policy.

Just a randon 49er thought

Didn't see this before.

Lot of respect to you my friend. It was a classic, and I think we all wish it ended differently. I`m not even talking about W or L, just not the fumbled punt then a FG

You can say Smith is garbage, but he played like a legend the week before. Maybe the Giants D was just nasty and stopped our offense big time. Also, maybe we had a bunch of nobodies at WR.

Alex will be better in 2012

Let's have fun 49ers fans, post your top 5 49ers memories.

1. Beating Green Bay with the Catch II. I seen the SB, and it was great, but finally getting revenge on Favre was such a sweet experience.

2. Going to SF this year and watching the 49ers beat the Giants in the regular season, just a surreal experience after being a fan 20+ years.

3. The SB win over SD. So much fun, but it was so easy from the jump.

4. vs. NO this year, just the biggest roller coaster ride ever and such a redemption game after 8 years of failure.

5. My first 49ers/Giants game with my dad in NJ, the year after 9/11 it was the season opener and very emotional.
