I feel like reposting my likely Expat types on this thread and I may do it.
But If you got ten years into a federal job I wouldn’t quit my job to move to Africa
However most people are broke based on their location. You live in LA and you’re making low 6 figures or less renting non section 8 If you moved to Lower Alabama you’d be giving yourself a raise of tens of thousands of dollars and live in a FBA community to boot.
If you were down to live overseas you’d be giving yourself about four times that and that’s in the relatively expensive DR. Based on what Mikel is saying his spot by the water would cost at least 800 to 1600 bucks Dude is paying about around 200 and change.
You could work a few years rent in Kampala for a couple of years invest the savings and be able afford a Bungalow in LA
You could even use your credit card cash advance option or better yet the credit option if your landlord would accept itget the apartment and use the savings to pay off your credit card debt.
And if you started Airbnb or flipping apartments you could really blow up as people local and international would trust you more than a local.
Again people coming over working for a Help the youngins NGO or the Peace Corp wouldn’t quibble over prices like an informed local or expat would they would just hear Hot water standard, A/C, Back up generator, Decent Fridge and Washer and would gladly pay 700 for a spot like his.
Same thing open up a hip hop club and again it would totally pop off because again being american it’s more ‘official'
There’s so many ways to make this work if you wanted to. You grab some projects on upwork even making 5 or 6 bucks an hour USD is a kings ransom not counting your passive income.

Then there’s the possilbity of running a garden to a full scale farm and the savings and health benefits of that.

Cut down on your expenses either in the city you live or relocate in the states or go abroad.
i wouldnt recommend going to Africa for health care but maybe Mexico is an option for surgery and Colombia or Thailand is best for elective surgery.
