Marc Geiger is the founder of ARTISTSDIRECT a talent scout agency, management firm as well as sublabel imprint founded with former Interscope head Ted Fields...
it now operates as an internet media conglomerate

ArtistDirect is responsible for pushing artists such as Blink 182 and Kevin Gates

"Labels are making money again....all the advertising revenue coming from entities like Youtube, thier getting 100 million dollar checks...streaming revenue....itunes downloads has exceeded record sales in stores...

the streaming on demand model scales and subscribtion services are big money...which is why Amazon, Apple and Google are entering the game...

the labels cut costs cause THEY DONT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING as far as overhead..just MAKE THE FILES Available to entities like Spotify ...

this works well for the Labels in regards CATALOG ARTISTS (old music) where the royalty rate (which is low) has already been PAID off, and the Marketing Costs have ALREADY BEEN PAID OFF AND RECOUPED....and it's PURE PROFIT......"

Yeah, the big point he made was on being able to give streaming access to older (established) artists; shyt is just going to be collecting checks for them espcially for people like me who are too lazy to buy the discography of ohio players/marvin gaye/the beatles/etc but wanna have access to the music. That's where the big money is for the labels; no overhead costs at all.

But they were never were in the struggle to begin with, just a bunch of whining cause they couldn't justify their established profit gouging "model" on everyone now with the internet.

uhh nah homie

I've learned my lesson discussing the matter on a Internet Radio show 2 years ago ...

Once I started namedropping major labels like Universal I got cut off abruptly by the show host whom stated I was being "slanderous" :francis:

I'm good on that ....besides I don't want those "DOUG MORRIS" problems :whoa:

I have interests in the streaming biz

The music industry is literally just a collection of the best scam artists. The hustle is so immaculate. its like at one stance you hate the vileness, the base greed, what it does to the art form of music as a whole... on the other hand you just got to appreciate the single ultimate mastery of shiest, the same way you on a level appreciate beauty of a shark or a lion on the hunt as long as you aint the prey...

went from charging 8 dollars for a tape
to charging 16 dollars for a compact disc
to 'dieing' even though they always made good money
to charging 14 dollars for 1's and 0's floating around the internet
and they at no point in that cycle EVER paid the person who made the music more than 10 cents on the dollar on average

the shiest is awe inspiring
Smh. They trade off is they make you a star and you can make money through other ventures like movies, shows, speaking engagements, sponsorships, etc. label execs can't do that. They in essence operate like any other Fortune 500.

The only fukked up thing about the music industry is the artists have to make back the money the labels invested in them before the artist make a cent off their art.

The music industry is pretty much a commission job but you can make millions and have fun doing so.

And like Ross said on foreclosures you never make it back or break even

You just refinance the debt :wow:

Labels always win

It's funny the snakes have managed to stay back under the tall grass.

People complaining about Apple and the artist but not the guys in the middle who do nothing getting a chunk....

DFW Metroplex
exactly.....

I was just on iTunes and looking at The average Price of an album being like 12 bucks...

12 fukking bucks for a damn digital file...that unlike the physical cd YOU NEVER GET to own....cause u are limited to playing it on the player THEY provide unless u convert it
That's the case with movies & TV shows on iTunes, but NOT music. Music you bought & downloaded from iTunes can be played on any music player or device that play .aac/.m4a files
